The call

Clemenger now runs entirely inside Omnicom's cost machine, losing accounts like Asahi and Woolworths while AI tools built by its own parent squeeze the fees it used to keep.

Clemenger Group is a marketing and advertising company in Australia and New Zealand that helps big clients with advertising campaigns, media planning, and creative work. It is getting harder to compete because artificial intelligence can now do much of the creative and planning work that Clemenger's people used to do, and its parent company Omnicom is using AI tools to cut costs and passing those savings to clients instead of keeping higher profits. The big question is whether Omnicom will charge clients extra for using its AI platform, which would protect Clemenger's earnings, or whether it will keep giving clients the savings, which would squeeze Clemenger's fees even more.

Why
01
AI pressure: Omnicom's 'Omni' agentic platform and AI creative/media tools. Omni automates creative, media planning and research that Clemenger staff used to bill hours for, and Omnicom may pass savings to clients, not keep them as margin. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Omnicom Group (parent) post-IPG merger cost cuts. Parent's $900M-$1.5B synergy push already triggered three re-orgs in 18 months and real account losses like Asahi and Woolworths. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Decades-long client relationships (Mazda, 48 years) and local ANZ market knowledge Omnicom still needs to run those accounts.
What would change this call
Omnicom's Q2/Q3 2026 earnings and Investor Day update on ANZ cost-synergy execution. Shows whether Clemenger faces deeper cuts or brand rollups under the $900M-$1.5B synergy target.
Outcome of DDB Australia integration and resolution of client conflicts like Kmart vs TK Maxx or VW vs Mazda. Shows whether merger integration causes further account losses or runs smoothly.
Whether Omnicom's 'Omni' agentic AI platform ships as a paid client feature or stays an internal cost-cutting tool. Shows whether Clemenger gains a pricing moat from AI or just faces continued fee compression.

Questions people ask
What is Clemenger Group's biggest risk right now?
The biggest near-term risk is losing the Samsung Australia creative and media account to Dentsu ANZ, a review that has been formally underway since February 2026 and is expected to resolve by around August 2026. Longer term, generative AI tools for creative production are described as 'building' pressure on billable ideation and production work, an area where Clemenger has no public AI leadership move yet, unlike Dentsu ANZ's March 2026 appointment of a Chief Data and Technology Officer.
Is Clemenger Group in financial trouble?
There is no direct evidence of financial distress: Clemenger reported A$307.2 million in total revenue and 1,496 employees in 2024, and Omnicom completed a full buyout of the remaining stake by 2025-06-15 (with a later completion date of 2025-11-02 also on record), moving it fully into Omnicom's structure. The strain instead comes from Omnicom's internal cost-cutting push and the contested Samsung account, which together are the main sources of pressure noted in the July 2026 assessment.
Who are Clemenger Group's biggest competitors?
Its two named rivals are Dentsu ANZ, which is contesting Clemenger's Samsung Australia creative and media account and already has a Chief Data and Technology Officer in place as of March 2026, and WPP, also named as a bidder for the same Samsung account. Clemenger's July 2026 assessment describes it as having weaker structural protection against these rivals than is typical for its peer group.
Is Clemenger Group at risk from AI?
Yes, the AI threat status is listed as 'building': generative AI tools for creative production, such as copy and imagery, compress the billable production work agencies traditionally charge for. As of the July 2026 assessment Clemenger has no public AI or data leadership appointment to counter this, in contrast to Dentsu ANZ's dedicated Chief Data and Technology Officer role for its ANZ agencies, created in March 2026.
Does Clemenger Group have any real competitive protection?
Its July 2026 assessment found little structural protection beyond existing client trust. Its actual edge is relational and practical, long client tenure such as 48 years with Mazda and integrated creative-plus-media-plus-PR service that is hard for a rival to replicate in a single pitch cycle, evidenced by its May 2025 win of the Kmart Australia account from Dentsu Creative.
What should I watch to see how Clemenger Group is doing?
Two dated checkpoints matter: the outcome of the Samsung Australia creative and media review, contested by Dentsu ANZ and WPP since February 2026 and expected to resolve around August 2026, and whether Omnicom appoints a dedicated AI or data leader for its Oceania agencies by November 2026 to match Dentsu ANZ's March 2026 move. As of the July 2026 assessment neither milestone has been resolved.
