The call

Coforge is outgrowing peers while digesting two mega-acquisitions, but its labor-based revenue sits directly in the path of AI coding tools and has no barrier against bigger rivals copying its wins.

Coforge is a mid-sized technology services company based in India that helps other businesses build software, test it, and handle back-office work. The bigger players like TCS, Infosys, and Accenture can copy what Coforge does because there is no special advantage that stops them from competing. The real threat is that artificial intelligence can now do much of the work that Coforge's employees do, meaning customers may not need as many people doing coding and testing in the future. The company just spent billions buying two other firms (Encora and Cigniti) to get bigger, so whether it can combine them successfully without losing money in the next year will show if this bet works out.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI coding agents (Copilot, Cursor, Devin-style tools) compressing app dev and testing hours. AI agents cut the billable hours behind Coforge's core app dev, testing, and BPO work, the same work driving April 2026's Indian IT selloff. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro, Accenture, Cognizant. Nothing stops these larger rivals from copying Coforge's playbook; they compete purely on execution and pricing, not on any barrier. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A 13-year, $1.56B Sabre contract, roughly 30% repeat business, and regulated-industry client relationships that are slow to rebid.
What would change this call
Coforge's Q1 FY27 earnings call (Jul/Aug 2026) on pricing and margin trends. Would show whether AI productivity gains are being passed back to clients as discounts.
Encora and Cigniti integration synergy results reported in FY27. Would show whether Coforge can digest two mega-acquisitions without margin or delivery strain.
Whether Persistent Systems plus Nagarro deal closes and creates a larger combined entity. Would show mid-tier Indian IT ranking shifting against Coforge.

Questions people ask
Is Coforge profitable in 2026?
Yes. Coforge reported FY26 (year ended March 31, 2026) revenue of $1.87B, up 29.2% YoY, with PAT of $177.4M, up 82.1% YoY, and EBIT margin expanding 370bps to 14.4%, per its May 5, 2026 results release.
Who owns Coforge?
Coforge has no controlling promoter. Baring Private Equity Asia, once holding around 70%, fully exited by August 24, 2023, selling its remaining ~26.6% stake for ₹7,683 crore to buyers including Morgan Stanley, SBI MF and ICICI Pru. It is now 100% publicly owned via NSE/BSE.
Could AI replace Coforge's core services?
Coforge's app development, testing and BPO revenue is directly exposed to AI coding agents that compress delivery hours; this fear drove an April 24, 2026 Indian IT sector selloff. Coforge counters with its Quasar AI platform, claiming 30% developer productivity gains as of June 2026 (vendor-claimed).
Is Coforge a safe company to join right now?
Coforge shows strong hiring momentum, with headcount at 35,777 as of March 31, 2026 and LTM attrition of 10.8%, among the lowest in Indian IT. However, it is simultaneously digesting two mega-acquisitions (Encora, Cigniti), which carries integration and role-overlap risk into FY27.
Who is Coforge's biggest competitor?
Coforge competes with mid-tier peers LTIMindtree, Persistent Systems, Mphasis and Hexaware, and faces no structural barrier against giants TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro, Accenture and Cognizant chasing the same clients. Persistent's proposed $1.3B Nagarro acquisition, announced June 27, 2026, could soon outsize Coforge.
How fast is Coforge growing compared to rivals?
Coforge posted the fastest H1 FY26 growth among mid-tier Indian IT peers, up 36.8% YoY to $904M versus peers' 5-18% range, according to a November 7, 2025 Livemint report; full FY26 revenue hit $1.87B, up 29.2% YoY.
