The call

Crayon is gone as a standalone company, folded into SoftwareOne, with its brand disappearing and its reseller work increasingly done by cloud vendors' own AI tools.

Crayon Group was a software reseller that helped companies manage their Microsoft and cloud licenses and costs. SoftwareOne bought the entire company in July 2025, so Crayon is being folded into SoftwareOne and its brand is being retired by mid-2026. The reseller business itself is not disappearing, but it is hard to stay profitable because Microsoft, Amazon, and other tech giants now offer their own free tools that do much of what resellers like Crayon used to charge for, meaning the advisory work that made resellers valuable is shrinking. What happens next depends on whether SoftwareOne can keep costs down during the merger and whether it can hold onto customers who might simply use the free cloud tools instead.

Why
01
AI pressure: Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, AI-driven FinOps platforms. Cloud consoles and AI FinOps tools now do the license and cost auditing that Crayon used to bill for. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: SoftwareOne Holding AG. SoftwareOne bought all of Crayon in July 2025, delisted it, and is retiring the brand by mid 2026. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Large public-sector customer base and AWS distribution ties give the merged business some sticky accounts, but Crayon itself no longer exists to protect.

Questions people ask
Is Crayon Group still a publicly traded company?
No. Crayon Group Holding ASA was delisted from Euronext Oslo Bors on 2 July 2025 after SoftwareOne Holding AG completed a compulsory acquisition of the remaining 8.23% of shares, taking full ownership and ending its life as an independent public company.
Who owns Crayon now?
Crayon is a wholly owned subsidiary of Swiss-listed SoftwareOne Holding AG (SIX: SWON), which completed 100% acquisition on 2 July 2025 after a combination deal announced 19 December 2024 worth NOK 69 cash plus 0.8233 new SoftwareOne shares per Crayon share.
Was Crayon profitable before the acquisition?
Yes, by its own reporting. Standalone Crayon posted FY2024 revenue of NOK 7,012m (up ~10% YoY) with adjusted EBITDA of NOK 1,174m, roughly a 17% margin, and Q1 2025 net income of NOK 43m, per its own annual report and Q1 2025 earnings release.
Could AI replace what Crayon does?
Much of Crayon's software asset management auditing and license-optimization work is exposed to AI-driven cloud cost tools like Azure Cost Management and AWS Cost Explorer plus third-party FinOps platforms, which automate the advisory layer that generated Crayon's higher margins, per the brief's 2026 assessment.
Who is Crayon's biggest competitor?
In SAM managed services, Crayon's peers are Insight Enterprises, SHI International, Softchoice and Computacenter, per Gartner-alternative listings; but its most direct former competitor, SoftwareOne, became its parent company after completing acquisition on 2 July 2025.
Will the Crayon name disappear entirely?
It is on track to. SoftwareOne announced the Crayon-to-SoftwareOne brand transition on 28-29 January 2026, and by 2 April 2026 APAC direct sales and channel businesses were already unified under the single SoftwareOne brand, with full rollout targeted for Q2 2026.
