The call

Dafiti turned its first profit in 2025 but shrank its footprint to get there, while three bigger rivals and a lower tariff wall now sell into Brazil more cheaply.

Dafiti sells clothes and fashion items online in Latin America, competing with much larger marketplaces like MercadoLibre and Shopee. It is not hard to copy because any big company can add fashion products to their platform, which is exactly what MercadoLibre is doing right now, and cheaper imports from China (thanks to Brazil removing import taxes) make it even easier for those rivals to undercut Dafiti's prices. The one thing that could change everything is whether Dafiti can grow its "Fulfilled by" business, where other sellers use Dafiti's warehouses and delivery to sell their products, turning Dafiti from a store into a platform that takes a cut from every sale rather than having to buy inventory itself.

Why
01
AI pressure: ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity shopping answers. AI shopping assistants can route fashion searches straight to Shein or MercadoLibre, cutting Dafiti's direct traffic before it happens. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Shopee, MercadoLibre, Shein. Shopee ($5.9bn GMV), MercadoLibre ($3.69bn) and Shein ($3.53bn) all outsell Dafiti in Brazilian fashion, and Brazil just dropped the tariff that slowed cheap imports. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A growing 'Fulfilled by' logistics business that grew 4x in 2025 and could turn Dafiti into infrastructure for other sellers rather than just a retailer competing on price.

Questions people ask
Is Dafiti profitable in 2025?
Dafiti's parent Global Fashion Group posted its first-ever positive group adjusted EBITDA of +€9m in 2025, and Dafiti's LATAM segment EBITDA improved to +€3m in 2025 from -€22m in 2023, per GFG's FY2025 results.
Who owns Dafiti?
Dafiti is a wholly owned operating brand of Global Fashion Group S.A. (GFG), a Luxembourg-headquartered holding company listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since July 2019, which also owns THE ICONIC and ZALORA.
Who is Dafiti's biggest competitor?
In Brazilian fashion marketplace GMV for 2024, Shopee led with about $5.9bn, MercadoLibre had about $3.69bn, and Shein had about $3.53bn, all larger than Dafiti's roughly $362m 2025 annual sales.
Could AI replace Dafiti's business?
Dafiti's physical logistics, including its AutoStore-automated LEAP warehouse with about 300 robots and 3.6 million-unit capacity (2026), are not AI-replaceable, but shifting fashion discovery toward AI assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity (2025-2026) threatens its direct-traffic acquisition.
Is Dafiti shrinking or growing?
Dafiti exited Argentina in 2023 and Chile in Q1 2025, narrowing to Brazil and Colombia; after a 2025 turnaround with NMV up 6%, Q1 2026 saw LATAM NMV decline 3.0% and active customers fall 4.8% year over year.
Will Brazil's tariff repeal hurt Dafiti?
Brazil revoked its 20% import tariff on purchases under $50 on May 12, 2026, a change expected to favor cheaper cross-border rivals like Shein, Shopee and Temu against Dafiti and other LATAM-based retailers.
