E-commerce and marketplaces

267 companies assessed. 155 of them, 58.1%, sit in the two least protected bands, against 53.3% across all 10,525 companies assessed.

The picture

E-commerce right now is splitting hard between platforms with owned logistics, fintech, or a locked-in seller base, and everyone else. Amazon, Alibaba's family of marketplaces, MercadoLibre, Flipkart, Trendyol, Vinted, and Faire all sit with low pressure and high moat scores because they either dominate a region outright or serve a niche (secondhand, wholesale) that low-price rivals can't easily copy. Meanwhile there's a real graveyard forming: Qoo10, WeMakePrice, TMON, Tiki, Sendo, Elo7, Zando, Gome, Catch.com.au, MyDeal.com.au, and NetEase Kaola have all shut down or gone dormant in the last two years, mostly swallowed by Shopee, TikTok Shop, Coupang, or Amazon regional arms. The middle tier is where the real fight is: Korean and Taiwanese TV and legacy marketplaces (Lotte On, GS Shop, CJ OnStyle, Hyundai Hmall, Auction, PChome) are bleeding to app-based, fast-delivery competitors like Coupang and Naver Shopping. The one thing deciding survival isn't AI directly, it's who controls delivery speed and who owns the payment or loyalty loop around the purchase. Platforms without their own logistics or a sticky fintech layer keep losing share to whoever can ship faster and cheaper, and low-price cross-border players like Temu, Shein, and AliExpress are the pressure valve squeezing almost everyone from below.
