The call

The freight business survives inside DSV, but Schenker as a separate company is gone, and its back-office jobs are being cut through 2026.

DB Schenker moves freight and packages around the world. It was independent until April 2025, when the larger company DSV bought it for 14.3 billion euros. DSV now runs the world's biggest freight business, with licenses to operate in over 90 countries and deep relationships with huge corporate customers that are hard to replace. However, DSV is cutting thousands of jobs to save money and combining the two companies' overlapping work, and artificial intelligence is also automating paperwork and customer service tasks that back-office workers used to do by hand. The key question is which specific job you hold: customer-facing and operations roles are likely staying, but administrative and shared services jobs are being eliminated through the end of 2026.

Why
01
AI pressure: DSV's own AI automation of quoting, customs paperwork, booking and dispatch. DSV is using AI to strip out back-office freight work, not losing to an outside AI rival, and Schenker's admin jobs are the target. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: DSV A/S. DSV bought Schenker outright in April 2025 and is folding it into one company, cutting 7,000+ roles so far. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Customs licenses, 1,850+ physical locations and carrier contracts in 90+ countries are hard to replace overnight.
What would change this call
DSV publishes final post-merger org structure and redundancy list by September 2026. Clarifies which Schenker functions are eliminated versus retained long-term.
Headcount cuts exceed the planned 7,000+ or extend past 2027. Shows integration pain deeper or longer than management guided.
DSV Q4 2026 earnings confirm DKK 9B synergy target reached on schedule. Validates integration completion and reduces further restructuring risk.

Questions people ask
Is DB Schenker still an independent company?
No. DB Schenker ceased independent existence on April 30, 2025, when Danish logistics group DSV A/S completed its acquisition for an enterprise value of €14.3 billion, ending 23 years under Deutsche Bahn ownership. It now operates as a wholly-owned DSV subsidiary.
Who owns DB Schenker now?
DSV A/S, the Danish logistics group listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen, has owned DB Schenker since the acquisition closed on April 30, 2025. Deutsche Bahn, the previous owner since 2002, received about €12.5 billion at closing including liability repayments.
Is DB Schenker profitable under DSV ownership?
Combined DSV+Schenker results show DSV's H1 2026 EBIT reached DKK 6.3 billion, up 23% year over year, called its strongest quarterly performance since the pandemic, as of June 30, 2026, with FY2026 EBIT guidance of DKK 23.5 to 25.5 billion.
Will AI replace jobs at DB Schenker?
DSV had already cut over 7,000 white-collar Schenker roles by Q1 2026 as part of integration, and is consolidating IT onto its own platforms specifically to enable AI automation of labor-intensive back-office work, per Computer Weekly reporting dated April 21, 2026.
Who is DB Schenker's biggest competitor now?
Kuehne+Nagel remains a top rival, leading 2025 air freight tonnage at 1.89 million metric tons, while Sinotrans overtook Kuehne+Nagel in ocean TEU volume in 2025 with 4.87 million TEU. DHL Global Forwarding also ranks consistently among the top three.
Could an AI startup disrupt DB Schenker's freight forwarding business?
An AI-driven market scare hit logistics stocks in February 2026 over fears AI could automate forwarding labor, per Computer Weekly on April 21, 2026, but DB Schenker's customs licensing across 90-plus countries and 1,850-plus physical locations remain hard for AI-only entrants to replicate.
