The call

DeHaat leads Indian agritech on revenue and reach, but its profit turn is one quarter old and its physical network sits exposed to deep-pocketed conglomerates and government data infrastructure.

DeHaat buys farm supplies in bulk and sells them to Indian farmers through 11,000 to 18,000 local pickup points, plus it offers credit and advice. The hard part is building all those local centers and earning farmer trust, which big companies like Reliance and ITC could copy if they wanted to, and the government is building its own farm data system that could let anyone offer the same credit and information. The key question is whether DeHaat can stop losing money by next March 2026, and whether it can shift more sales to its own private-label products that make better profits.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. DeHaat runs its own AI-enabled advisory tools for farmers; no outside AI product is pulling its farmers or centres away yet. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Reliance Retail/Jio, ITC e-Choupal, Adani Agri. These conglomerates have the capital to build rural distribution and could push into full-stack smallholder services DeHaat now leads. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. 11,000 to 18,000 physical DeHaat Centres plus farmer trust built over years, which is slow and costly for a big company to copy fast.
What would change this call
DeHaat's FY26 full-year results filed with MCA (expected H2 2026) show operating profit or loss. Confirms whether Q1 FY26 EBITDA-positive quarter was a durable turnaround or seasonal blip.
Reliance Retail, ITC, or Adani Agri announce a full-stack smallholder distribution push in India. Would show a well-capitalized incumbent directly targeting DeHaat's physical last-mile moat.
Government Agristack rollout expands farmer ID, land record, or credit rail adoption nationally. Would show DeHaat's proprietary farmer-data and credit layer being commoditized by public infrastructure.

Questions people ask
Is DeHaat profitable in 2026?
Not on an operating basis for full-year FY25, which closed with a ₹207 Cr operating loss despite a headline ₹369 Cr profit driven by a one-time ₹576 Cr fair-value gain. DeHaat reported a small EBITDA-positive Q1 FY26 (₹5-10 Cr) in July 2025, but full FY26 results are pending as of July 2026.
Could AI replace DeHaat's crop advisory service?
The generic advisory layer, weather and pest alerts, is increasingly automatable by AI, and DeHaat itself already uses satellite and ML tools per a March 2026 NITI Aayog profile. But its profit driver is physical last-mile distribution across 11,000 to 18,000 centres and farmer trust, which AI cannot easily replicate.
Who is DeHaat's biggest competitor?
No single incumbent dominates yet, but ITC's e-Choupal predates DeHaat and Reliance Retail/Jio and Adani Agri have capital and rural ambitions that could target the same smallholder full-stack model. Within pure agritech, Ninjacart, AgroStar, and Samunnati are the closest funded peers as of January 2026.
Who owns DeHaat and has it raised money recently?
DeHaat is privately venture-backed by investors including Prosus, Peak XV Partners, Temasek, and Sofina Ventures, with no public listing. Its last equity round was a $60M Series E in December 2022; it raised ₹200 Cr in venture debt from Trifecta Capital in April 2025 instead of fresh equity.
Is DeHaat planning an IPO?
No. CEO Shashank Kumar said in July 2025 that DeHaat has no IPO plans for at least two years, with any listing contingent on the company achieving sizable, sustained profitability beyond the single EBITDA-positive quarter reported that same month.
How big is DeHaat compared to other Indian agritech startups?
DeHaat reported the highest FY25 revenue among Indian agritech peers at ₹3,010 Cr, ahead of Samunnati's ₹2,434 Cr and FarMart's ₹1,961 Cr, and well ahead of Ninjacart, whose FY25 revenue fell about 19% YoY to ₹1,634 Cr, per a January 2026 industry report.
