The call

DotPe still runs a profitable, widely used restaurant platform, but four years without new funding and a shrinking team sit next to a better-funded rival, Petpooja, moving in on its customers.

DotPe sells point-of-sale and management software to restaurants in India. Its main advantage is that it owns data about restaurant sales and customers, which makes it harder for Zomato and Swiggy (the big food delivery apps) to replace it completely. However, a competitor called Petpooja just raised Series C funding in 2025 and is taking DotPe's customers by offering better integration with other tools. DotPe claims to have built AI features but has not shared real proof that they help restaurants make money. The company is profitable but has had no new funding since 2022 and cut its staff in half, which means investors are nervous. The biggest thing that could change this: if DotPe announces a new funding round, gets bought, or releases independent evidence that its AI tools actually work and keep customers happy.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. DotPe markets AI tools like Sova and Amello, but no independent data shows these change customer outcomes yet. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Zomato and Swiggy. Both aggregators now push native merchant tools like InResto, competing directly with DotPe's ordering stack. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Deep POS and workflow integration with ~55,000 outlets makes ripping out DotPe's system costly and slow for restaurants.
What would change this call
DotPe announces new funding, acquisition, or audited profitability within 12 months. Would show DotPe regaining investor confidence rather than drifting toward distress.
Independent, non-vendor reports of Petpooja logo-sweeps or DotPe merchant migrations. Would confirm real customer loss to Petpooja beyond isolated cases.
DotPe headcount trend in Revelio Labs data over next two quarters. Continued decline would signal contraction; stabilization would signal a durable profitable base.
