The call

Earnest now operates as a subsidiary inside Consumer Edge, its data panels intact but its analyst layer under pressure from its own parent's AI tool and a bigger rival.

Earnest Research sells data and analysis to investors to help them make trading and business decisions. It uses real transaction data from credit cards and other sources, plus healthcare information, which are hard for competitors to copy quickly. However, it now belongs to Consumer Edge, a company owned by private equity investors, and is being combined with other businesses. The bigger problem is that AI chatbots and new AI-powered competitors are making analyst insights cheaper and easier to find, which erodes what made Earnest special. The key question is whether Earnest keeps its own brand and team over the next year or simply disappears into Consumer Edge's other products.

Why
01
AI pressure: Consumer Edge's own Cosmos Agent (AI chat, launched 2025-2026). Its parent's Cosmos Agent lets clients query data directly, squeezing the paid analyst-insight layer Earnest used to sell. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: YipitData. YipitData holds roughly 12% of hedge fund alt-data spend and counts Walmart as a client, far outscaling Earnest's post-acquisition footprint. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Licensed panels, including Vela's 100 million-account transaction feed and healthcare data, are hard for AI tools to replicate outright.

Questions people ask
Is Earnest Research still an independent company?
No. Consumer Edge announced its acquisition of Earnest Analytics (formerly Earnest Research) on April 14, 2025, and the deal closed April 28, 2025. It now operates as a data/brand asset inside Consumer Edge's Dash platform rather than as a standalone firm.
Who owns Earnest Research now?
Earnest Analytics is owned by Consumer Edge, a consumer alternative-data firm founded in 2009 led by CEO Bill Pecoriello and backed by Treville Capital Group since 2022. Consumer Edge completed its acquisition of Earnest on April 28, 2025.
Is Earnest Analytics profitable?
No verified profitability figures exist. Only unverified third-party revenue estimates circulated pre-acquisition (Earnest around $15.8M to $20M annually), and no post-acquisition profit or loss data for Consumer Edge or Earnest has been publicly disclosed as of 2026.
Could AI replace Earnest Research's analyst services?
Its parent Consumer Edge launched an AI chat beta in October 2025 and a conversational AI agent called Cosmos Agent in April 2026, both designed to let clients query consumer spending data directly, automating the analyst-insight layer that Earnest used to sell as a premium service.
Who is Earnest Research's biggest competitor?
YipitData is the category leader in alternative transaction data, cited as holding roughly 12% of hedge fund alt-data spend with clients including Walmart. Earnest, now part of Consumer Edge, is positioned as a mid-tier player behind YipitData and peer M Science.
What happened to the Earnest Research brand?
Earnest Research rebranded to Earnest Analytics by mid-2024, then was acquired by Consumer Edge in April 2025. Its transaction and healthcare data are being folded into Consumer Edge's Dash platform, and it is unclear whether the Earnest name will survive as a distinct brand long-term.
