Financial data and information services
267 companies assessed. 131 of them, 49.1%, sit in the two least protected bands, against 53.3% across all 10,525 companies assessed.
Financial data and information services splits sharply along one line: does the company hold a license, a regulatory seat, or a proprietary panel that nobody can just rebuild with an AI model? Credit rating agencies (Moody's, S&P Global, Fitch, Korea Ratings, Korea Investors Service, Taiwan Ratings, RAM Ratings, Teikoku Databank, Tokyo Shoko Research, TransUnion CIBIL) sit on licensed oligopolies or century-old field-research networks, and none show any customer defection yet. Index providers like MSCI and China Securities Index Co. are load-bearing infrastructure that trillions in funds are contractually built on, so they barely feel AI at all. The trouble sits with companies whose product is a database of contact info, survey answers, or reports that a language model can now approximate for free. ZoomInfo, Datanyze, Capterra, CB Insights, FullContact, Gravy Analytics, iResearch, and ResearchAndMarkets.com are all bleeding to either AI-native rivals or to AI Overviews and chatbots answering the question directly instead of sending a referral click. Japan's survey research firms (Macromill, Cross Marketing, INTAGE) are locked in a price war where AI cuts turnaround time and margins for everyone. The deciding dynamic is simple: if your value is a legal seat or a panel nobody else can replicate, AI is background noise; if your value is just aggregating public or scrapable information, AI is now doing your job for free.

- Will AI replace credit rating agencies like Moody's and S&P?
- No evidence points that way. Moody's, S&P Global, and Fitch operate inside a licensed structure that regulators and bond markets rely on, and none show any customer loss to AI tools. Their moat is legal standing, not just data processing.
- Is ZoomInfo losing customers to AI startups?
- Yes. ZoomInfo's downmarket account value fell 11% year over year as customers moved to AI-native tools like Apollo.io and Clay that do prospecting differently and more cheaply.
- Why is Nielsen losing TV ratings business?
- VideoAmp took the Paramount measurement contract from Nielsen in October 2024 and scaled to $3 billion in upfront ad deals, an 880% jump year over year. Comscore and iSpot.tv are also certified alternatives buyers can pick instead.
- Are software review sites like Capterra still useful with AI search?
- Their traffic is dropping fast. Capterra's referral clicks have fallen 33 to 92 percent as Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity now answer software-buying questions directly instead of sending users to review pages.
- Which financial data companies are safest from AI disruption?
- Companies with a license or legal seat, like Moody's, S&P Global, Fitch, MSCI, TransUnion CIBIL, and Korea's rating agencies, show no signs of customer loss. Field-research firms like Teikoku Databank and Tokyo Shoko Research are protected by data AI cannot easily replicate.
- Why are Japanese market research firms like Macromill and INTAGE under pressure?
- They compete against each other on price and turnaround while AI tools commoditize survey coding and report writing. INTAGE says Macromill is cutting turnaround times by roughly 40% using AI, squeezing margins across the whole segment.
- A major bond issuer or fund accepts an AI-generated credit assessment instead of a Moody's/S&P/Fitch rating for a real transaction
- Nielsen loses another major network or streaming client to VideoAmp, Comscore, or iSpot.tv
- ZoomInfo or Capterra reports a stabilization or reversal in the metrics currently declining (ACV, referral traffic)
