Not much stands between this business and its pressures.

The call

Espressive no longer exists as an independent company, and the entire category it built is being absorbed into the big platforms that host it.

Espressive built software that answered employee questions about IT and HR problems using artificial intelligence, similar to how ChatGPT answers questions but specialized for workplace help desks. The company is no longer independent because Resolve bought it in September 2025, and the entire category of standalone AI help desk tools collapsed in one year as bigger players like ServiceNow (which bought the market leader Moveworks) and Microsoft built the same capability into their own platforms. What matters now is whether Resolve can keep Espressive's old customers happy and actually reduce their support tickets as promised, otherwise those customers will switch to ServiceNow, Microsoft, or Google's built-in AI assistants instead.

Why
01
AI pressure: ServiceNow Now Assist / Moveworks, Microsoft Copilot, Agentforce. Frontier LLMs commoditized the NLU that made Barista special, so platform-native agents now do the same job for free inside tools companies already own. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: ServiceNow (bought Moveworks for ~$2.85B, ships native Now Assist). ServiceNow owns the platform Barista plugged into, bought the category leader, and now sells the same feature natively, squeezing out standalone tools. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Existing Barista deployments (200,000+ licenses via Atos) keep running and switching costs delay migration, but nothing stops replacement.
What would change this call
Resolve announces a sunset date for Barista deployments before mid-2027. Would show active customer churn and failed integration of the acquired product.
ServiceNow reports material win-rate gains over Resolve/Barista in customer deals during 2H 2026. Would show the platform owner's native tool is displacing Barista faster than expected.
Resolve's Growth Score and site-visitor metrics stay flat through Q4 2026. Would show the Espressive acquisition is stalling rather than driving growth.

Named risks
  • No published sunset date for Barista, creating roadmap uncertainty for existing customers. Severity: high
  • Delisted G2 page and proliferating 'alternatives' content signal customer churn during transition. Severity: high
  • Resolve's modest Growth Score (37/100) suggests merged entity may be stalling, not scaling. Severity: medium
  • Entire category consolidated via M&A within 12 months, leaving little room for standalone point solutions. Severity: high
  • Wide divergence in third party revenue estimates ($11.7M to $34.5M) makes true financial health unverifiable. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Espressive still an independent company in 2026?
No. Resolve acquired Espressive on September 10, 2025, folding its Barista conversational AI into Resolve's own RITA and Jarvis agents. Espressive's website now redirects to resolve.io and its G2 listing has been delisted as no longer valid, per eesel.ai reporting from May 2026.
Who bought Espressive and why?
Resolve, a Campbell, California based IT automation vendor, acquired Espressive on September 10, 2025 to advance its Zero Ticket IT vision, absorbing Barista's LLM based conversational AI and ServiceNow integration depth into its RITA and Jarvis products, per Resolve's own September 2025 announcement.
Was Espressive profitable before being acquired?
No public profitability figures exist. Third party revenue estimates vary wildly, from about $11.7M ARR in 2024 per Latka to $24.8M per Datanyze to $34.5M per Growjo in 2022, with no audited or company disclosed figure ever published, so profitability cannot be confirmed.
Could AI replace what Espressive's Barista did?
Barista itself was an AI layer replacing human IT and HR help desk staff, claiming 50 to 70 percent call volume reduction per Resolve's 2025 acquisition announcement (vendor claimed). Ironically, frontier LLMs and platform native agents like ServiceNow's Now Assist are now absorbing Barista's own category.
Who is Espressive's biggest competitor now?
Moveworks was the closest peer, reportedly reaching about $100M ARR before ServiceNow acquired it for roughly $2.85 billion, announced March 2025 and closed December 2025. Aisera, another peer, was acquired by Automation Anywhere in November 2025, leaving few independent rivals.
Does Espressive's Barista product still exist as a standalone tool?
As of mid 2026, the standalone Espressive brand has effectively been retired; espressive.com redirects to resolve.io and its features are being merged into Resolve's RITA and Jarvis agents. Resolve has not published a firm sunset date for existing Barista deployments, per eesel.ai, May 2026.
