BPO and customer operations firms
171 companies assessed. 133 of them, 77.8%, sit in the two least protected bands, against 53.3% across all 10,525 companies assessed.
Customer service software and outsourcing is splitting into two worlds. On one side sit companies that own real infrastructure or a genuine AI-native product: Genesys, Bandwidth, RAKUS, Tanla, Tencent Qidian. They keep customers because switching costs are real or because they built the automation themselves instead of bolting it on. On the other side sit the seat-billed and volume-billed middlemen: call center operators like Transcosmos and Bell24, messaging routers like Infobip and RongCloud, helpdesk tools like Zendesk and Five9, and WhatsApp inbox apps like Wati and SleekFlow. These companies charge by the human hour or the message sent, and AI agents are quietly deleting both units. The clearest casualties are legacy on-premise phone and contact center vendors, Avaya, Mitel, Kayako, whose install bases are shrinking by double digits a year as cloud rivals absorb their customers. A second wave is products getting bought and then shut down outright, Drift, Delighted, Playvox, Espressive, where the new owner folds the feature into a bigger AI platform instead of keeping the brand alive. The dynamic that decides everything here is whether a company controls the resolution itself or just routes work to humans or third-party APIs. Own the resolution and you hold up. Sell the pipe or the seat and Salesforce, Amazon, or a cloud giant eventually builds it for free.

- Will AI replace call centers and BPO jobs completely
- Not completely, but the seat-billed model is under real pressure. Companies like Transcosmos and Bell24 are seeing AI voicebots and chatbots automate operator hours, and Transcosmos's own guidance shows profit shrinking even as revenue grows.
- Is Zendesk still worth using in 2026
- Zendesk is holding customers for now but facing real pressure from Salesforce's Intercom/Fin acquisition and AI-native rivals like Sierra and Decagon, all of whom threaten its per-seat pricing model.
- Why did Drift shut down
- Drift's owner, Clari and Salesloft, is sunsetting the product and directing its customers to a different company called 1mind, with Qualified, Warmly, and Abmatic also positioned to pick up the leftover accounts.
- Is Avaya going out of business
- Avaya hasn't shut down, but its on-premise contact center base is shrinking about 20% a year as NICE and Genesys take a growing share of the cloud contact center market, roughly 22% and 20% respectively.
- What is the best alternative to Wati for WhatsApp business messaging
- Wati competes closely with AiSensy, Interakt, and Gallabox, all of whom offer nearly identical WhatsApp approval and chatbot features, so the choice usually comes down to price and support rather than any real feature gap.
- Will Salesforce Agentforce replace standalone customer service software
- Salesforce is actively pulling budget toward Agentforce and its Intercom/Fin acquisition, putting pressure on standalone tools like Zendesk, Five9, and Pegasystems, though none of them have publicly confirmed major customer losses yet.
- A standalone CX or helpdesk product gets acquired and then quietly shut down within 12 months instead of being integrated
- NICE and Genesys cloud CCaaS share numbers keep climbing while Avaya and Mitel report further on-premise base declines
- Salesforce or Microsoft start publishing AI-agent ticket resolution rates instead of seat counts in earnings
