The call

Everlaw keeps its customers through certification and workflow lock-in, while Relativity's AI features and Microsoft's bundling test whether that lock-in still justifies a $2 billion price tag.

Everlaw helps lawyers find and organize evidence in legal cases using software and AI. It is hard to replace because law firms have used it for 15 years, government agencies trust it with classified work, and switching costs are high, but Relativity (the market leader) just released competing AI tools called aiR for Review in 2025, and Microsoft is offering cheaper 'good enough' versions built into its Office products. The biggest thing to watch is whether Relativity starts winning cases against Everlaw in client competitions over the next year, and whether Everlaw raises new funding (which would signal how investors now value the company compared to its 2021 price tag).

Why
01
AI pressure: Relativity's aiR for Review. Relativity shipped its own AI review tool in 2025, aiming at the same Am Law 200 and state AG accounts Everlaw serves. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft Purview eDiscovery. Bundled free inside Microsoft 365, Purview threatens to make Everlaw look like an unnecessary extra cost for mid-market legal teams. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. FedRAMP authorization, chain-of-custody evidentiary trust, and 15-year workflow lock-in across 91 of the Am Law 200 and all 50 state AGs.
What would change this call
Everlaw announces a new priced funding round or discloses a valuation reset. Would confirm whether the 2021 $2B mark still holds or was stale.
Relativity's aiR for Review wins publicized bake-offs against Everlaw in Am Law 200 or state AG accounts. Would show Everlaw losing its core enterprise base to the incumbent.
Microsoft Purview eDiscovery adds litigation workflow features and wins mid-market legal department deals. Would show Microsoft displacing Everlaw from the low end via bundling.
Key numbers
  • $202M Series D closed at over $2B valuation (2021-11-02)
  • No new priced funding round since 2021 (2026-04-14)
  • Relativity holds ~24-26% share vs Everlaw's ~2% (2026-04-14)
Named risks
  • No priced funding round since 2021, so the widely cited $2 billion valuation may be a stale carry forward. Severity: high
  • Relativity's aiR for Review and Microsoft Purview's M365 bundling could erode mid market and Am Law 200 positioning. Severity: high
  • Everlaw is a minority player by install base against a dominant e-discovery incumbent, limiting pricing power. Severity: medium
  • Sector wide AI copyright and training data litigation (e.g. Anthropic's $1.5B settlement, July 2026) could raise AI partner costs. Severity: medium
  • Public financial and valuation data rely heavily on third party estimates rather than disclosed company figures. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Everlaw profitable in 2026?
Everlaw is private and discloses no audited financials. Third party estimator Latka pegs 2024 revenue at about $80.8 million, up from an estimated $61.1 million in 2023, but profitability itself has never been publicly confirmed as of mid 2026.
Who owns Everlaw?
Everlaw is privately held and venture backed, with no parent company. Its Series D closed November 2, 2021 for $202 million led by TPG Growth, with H.I.G. Growth Partners, CapitalG, Menlo Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz and K9 Ventures also participating, valuing it over $2 billion.
Could AI replace Everlaw?
Unlikely soon. Everlaw's Claude MCP integration (announced May 12, 2026) and Deep Dive tool add AI as features inside its FedRAMP certified, chain of custody litigation platform, not as a substitute for the regulated workflow and 15 years of Am Law and government lock in it provides.
Is Relativity a bigger threat to Everlaw than Microsoft?
Both are live threats as of 2026. Relativity holds an estimated far larger install base and shipped its own GenAI feature, aiR for Review, in 2025, while Microsoft Purview's bundling in Microsoft 365 threatens Everlaw's mid market customers with a good enough free alternative.
What is Everlaw's current valuation?
Its last confirmed valuation is over $2 billion, set at the November 2, 2021 Series D funding round. No new priced round has been publicly disclosed since then as of July 2026, so the widely cited 2025 to 2026 $2 billion figure is a carry forward estimate, not a fresh transaction.
Does Everlaw work with government agencies?
Yes. Everlaw has held FedRAMP Moderate Authority to Operate since 2020, and its EverlawAI Assistant received FedRAMP certification in August 2025, and the company states its platform is used by all 50 US state attorneys general as of March 2026 (vendor claimed).
