The call

Farfetch survives inside Coupang as a smaller, cheaper operation while the brands and shoppers that made it valuable keep drifting toward Mytheresa and direct-to-consumer channels.

Farfetch connects high-end fashion brands and boutiques to shoppers through an online platform, earning fees on sales. It is getting harder to defend because luxury brands like Kering are pulling their products to sell directly or through competing sites like Mytheresa, and because new AI chatbots can now style and recommend clothes as well as humans can. The one thing that matters most right now is whether the remaining big luxury companies will keep selling through Farfetch or leave it: Kering already took over $100 million in annual sales off the platform, and if others follow, there may not be much left to save.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI shopping assistants could replace curated browsing, but the bigger threat right now is brands and shoppers leaving the platform itself. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Mytheresa/LuxExperience (post-YNAP merger) and brand-direct channels like LVMH's 24S. Kering pulled over $100M in GMV, Neiman Marcus cut ties, and wealthy shoppers are moving to Mytheresa as Farfetch cuts staff and service. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Coupang still funnels revenue and traffic through it (26M+ monthly visitors), keeping it alive as a distribution asset even as brands exit.

Questions people ask
Is Farfetch profitable in 2026?
Farfetch has no standalone public financials since becoming a private Coupang subsidiary in January 2024. Parent Coupang posted its worst quarterly loss in four years in Q1 2026, a $266 million net loss, partly from data-breach costs, with Farfetch folded into its unprofitable Developing Offerings segment.
Who owns Farfetch now?
Coupang, Inc. (NYSE: CPNG) has owned Farfetch outright since completing a pre-pack administration acquisition on January 31, 2024, a deal that wiped out prior shareholders and roughly $1.6 billion in bondholder debt.
Is Farfetch laying off staff?
Yes. Headcount fell from about 10,534 in Q1 2023 to 4,897 by December 2025, a 53.5 percent drop, per Revelio Labs. Puck News reported in April 2026 that headcount had roughly halved to about 3,000, with offices closed in Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Moscow.
Is Farfetch losing luxury brand partners?
Yes. Within weeks of Coupang's acquisition closing in early 2024, Kering pulled brands representing over $100 million in GMV and Neiman Marcus severed its Bergdorf Goodman partnership, both cited as post-deal defections by Measure Protocol's February 2024 analysis.
Who is Farfetch's biggest competitor now?
Mytheresa, operating as LuxExperience after acquiring Yoox Net-A-Porter from Richemont in an all-stock deal in April 2025 that gave Richemont a 33 percent stake. LuxExperience's GMV grew about 15 percent to roughly $900 million in 2024/25, consolidating the multi-brand luxury e-commerce field.
Could AI replace Farfetch's shopping experience?
Farfetch already uses Vespa.ai's vector-search personalization engine for recommendations, described by Vespa in a July 2024 case study as serving over 4 million active customers across 190 countries. Generic AI shopping assistants can replicate discovery and styling, but not Farfetch's brand-side software integrations.
