Farmers Business Network
Farmer-owned network selling data, inputs, loans, and software to independent US and Canadian farms.
FBN has real data and lending assets that AI and Nutrien can't easily copy, but four CEOs in three years and a fresh corporate split leave the model unproven.
Farmers Business Network (FBN) helps farmers buy supplies, get loans, and access farming advice through a digital platform. The company has real advantages: it knows what 187 million acres of farmland are doing through transaction data, it has lent out $3 billion to farmers, and it owns logistics networks. These things are hard for others to copy overnight. But Nutrien, a giant $29 billion farm-supply company, is building its own digital platform called Nutrien HUB to compete directly. Also, FBN's advice tool uses ChatGPT, which means farmers could just ask ChatGPT themselves for free instead of paying FBN. The real test is whether FBN can make money from its core marketplace now that it spun off its crop-protection business in October 2025. If the remaining business is profitable, the spinoff was smart. If margins shrink, it was a sign the old model was broken.
Ruling or settlement in MDL 2993 antitrust case (Piper v. Corteva, E.D. Missouri). Would show whether FBN's supply access to inputs is legally secured or remains at risk.
FBN reports fifth CEO change since Diego Casanello's appointment. Would show continued leadership instability undermining execution on the post-GCS strategy.

- Is Farmers Business Network profitable in 2026?
- No profitability figures have been disclosed. FBN raised only $50M in a Jul 28, 2025 growth round, far smaller than earlier rounds, and third party trackers estimate its valuation fell to around $3.5B by early 2026, down from a $3.9B to $4.0B peak in Nov 2021, suggesting margin pressure.
- Has Farmers Business Network had layoffs?
- Yes. FBN laid off workers in Sept 2023 alongside plans for a new subsidiary, and Crustdata tracked headcount falling from about 1,000 in Jun 2021 to 561 by Apr 2024, before rebounding to 755 by Jul 2026 following restructuring and spin-offs.
- Who is FBN's biggest competitor?
- Nutrien Ag Solutions, the dominant incumbent with 1,700 to 2,000+ retail locations, 500,000 to 600,000 grower accounts, and about $29B in annual sales as of Dec 2025. Nutrien has shipped its own Nutrien HUB digital agronomy platform as a direct rival to FBN's marketplace.
- Could AI replace Farmers Business Network's Norm advisor?
- Norm launched in April 2023 built on OpenAI's GPT-3.5, so its advisory function is exposed to generalist AI substitution since farmers could query ChatGPT directly for agronomic guidance. FBN's harder to replicate assets are its proprietary transaction data across 187M acres and its $3B lending operation, not the chatbot layer.
- Who owns Farmers Business Network?
- FBN is privately held and venture backed, founded in 2014 by Amol Deshpande and Charles Baron. Investors include Fidelity, BlackRock, ADM, T. Rowe Price, GV, and Temasek, with total funding raised estimated at $944.5M to $968M over 11+ rounds as of Oct 2025.
- What is Farmers Business Network's revenue in 2025?
- Revenue estimates conflict sharply across third party trackers: PrivCo estimated $380M for 2024, Zoominfo lists $211.3M as of Jul 2026, and Prospeo estimates $750M annual as of Aug 2025. No single figure is independently confirmed, so FBN's actual revenue remains unverifiable.
