The call

FedEx still leads on revenue and enterprise reach, but Amazon now moves more packages, and that gap is the one to watch.

FedEx moves packages and freight using planes, trucks, and hubs, making money by charging customers to ship goods. Amazon has already built its own shipping network and now delivers more individual packages than FedEx does, which is the biggest threat FedEx faces right now. The question that matters most is whether Amazon will start offering shipping services to other companies (not just Amazon's own products), which could turn Amazon into a direct competitor for FedEx's core business customers.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI product ships packages; FedEx uses AI agents internally to cut costs, not to replace itself. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Amazon Logistics. Amazon delivered 6.7B parcels in 2025 versus FedEx's 3.6B, becoming the largest US carrier by volume. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Customs-broker licensing, 391 aircraft, the Memphis hub, and enterprise B2B contracts Amazon's network wasn't built for.
What would change this call
Amazon Shipping begins carrying non-Amazon third-party shipper volume at scale. would show Amazon becoming a true neutral carrier rival, not just internal logistics.
FedEx's U.S. parcel volume or revenue share (26.4% in 2025) falls in next annual data. would show enterprise/B2B customers shifting away from FedEx.
FedEx Supply Chain sale to CEVA/CMA CGM closes and Freight stake divestiture completes on schedule. would show FedEx executing its restructuring without added strain.
