The call

Firstsource is growing fast and expanding margins right as its core labor-based model faces AI automation and a much bigger, newly merged rival.

Firstsource runs a $1 billion-plus business handling customer calls, debt collection, and insurance claims for large companies. The problem is that AI can now do much of this work without humans, and rivals like Capgemini (which just bought competitor WNS) are bigger and building AI solutions faster. The company launched its own AI tools in spring 2026 and says it is moving away from cheap labor in poor countries, but Wall Street is skeptical: the stock fell 24% in a year even as the business grew, and the real test will be whether the company can charge enough for AI-powered work to keep profits healthy when fewer workers are needed.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-native, staffing-free BPS platforms. AI agents can now do claims processing and collections calls directly, cutting into the labor-heavy work Firstsource bills for. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Capgemini (post-WNS acquisition, October 2025). Capgemini absorbed WNS to create a 66,000-plus person, $3.3B rival with 700+ clients, out-scaling Firstsource on deal size. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Regulatory accountability in healthcare claims and debt collection, plus client data and workflow embedded over years.
What would change this call
Q1 FY27 results (late July/Aug 2026) show margin compression below 12.25% floor. would indicate AI-driven pricing pressure is outpacing cost cuts.
A named large healthcare or BFSI client publicly moves work to an AI-native BPS alternative. would show Firstsource's regulatory/trust moat is being bypassed.
Outcome-based/Kairos revenue mix growth reported alongside stable or rising EBIT margin for two straight quarters. would confirm the new AI model is replacing labor arbitrage profitably.
Key numbers
  • FY26 revenue crossed $1B, up 19.7% YoY (2026-03-31)
  • EBIT margin hit 12.25%, sixth straight quarter of gains (2026-03-31)
  • Stock down about 24% over trailing year (2026-07-01)
Named risks
  • Core FTE-based BPO revenue directly exposed to AI-native, staffing-free competitor platforms. Severity: high
  • FY27 guidance of 10-13% growth marks deceleration from FY26's 19.7%, raising margin compression risk. Severity: medium
  • Conflicting headcount data (35,000 company claim vs 27,271 Revelio Labs estimate) obscures true workforce trend. Severity: medium
  • New AI operating model (Kairos, launched April 2026) is unproven at scale against established consolidation like Capgemini/WNS. Severity: high
  • Stock down approximately 24% over trailing year despite revenue growth, signaling investor skepticism. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Firstsource Solutions profitable in 2026?
Yes. Firstsource reported FY26 (year ended March 31, 2026) revenue crossing $1 billion for the first time, up 19.7% year on year, with normalized profit after tax growing 26.9%, per its May 5, 2026 results release.
Could AI replace Firstsource's BPO business?
Firstsource's core labor-intensive contact center, collections and claims work is highly exposed to AI automation. Management publicly acknowledged in its May 2026 UK enterprise commentary that 'labor arbitrage is over,' pivoting to agentic AI models like Kairos launched April 2026.
Who owns Firstsource Solutions?
RPSG Ventures Limited, part of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, is the controlling shareholder, holding a 53.66% stake as of March 31, 2025. Sanjiv Goenka became Chairman in December 2012 after CESC Ltd acquired a 34.5% stake in 2012.
Who is Firstsource Solutions' biggest competitor?
Capgemini, after absorbing WNS in a $3.3 billion deal completed October 2025 (66,000+ employees, 700+ clients), forms the largest consolidated threat. Genpact, TCS BPS, Concentrix and AI-native staffing-free platforms also compete directly with Firstsource.
Is Firstsource Solutions laying off workers due to AI?
Public data is mixed. The company states over 35,000 employees as of mid-2026 and added 1,500+ net headcount in Q2 FY26, but independent estimator Revelio Labs shows a 4.7% headcount decline to 27,271 by December 2025, an unresolved discrepancy.
What is Firstsource's AI strategy called?
Firstsource launched 'Intelligence That Operates,' an agent-first, outcome-based operating model, in March 2026, followed by its underlying platform 'Kairos' in April 2026, alongside an Agentic AI Studio featuring 50+ AI task models across verticals.
