The call

Flinto still works and still has fans, but it ships almost nothing new while Figma absorbs its category piece by piece.

Flinto is a small Mac app that helps designers create animated prototypes by turning static screen designs into interactive demos. Figma, a much larger competitor with nearly $1 billion in yearly revenue, already includes animation and prototyping tools that do what Flinto does, plus Figma now has AI features that make it easier to create designs from scratch. Figma's animations are getting better, and since design teams already pay for Figma subscriptions, they may not need a separate tool. The main thing that could change this is if Flinto releases new AI-powered features in the next 6 to 12 months, but so far the company has not invested in AI at all.

Why
01
AI pressure: Figma AI. Figma AI now auto-generates layouts, code specs, and animation-adjacent output inside the same subscription most teams already pay for. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Figma. Figma bundles prototyping and animation into its main product, covering most of what Flinto does without a separate purchase. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A small group of Mac designers who prefer Flinto's offline, hand-tuned spring and easing animation workflow over Figma's built-in tools.
What would change this call
Flinto ships any AI-native animation feature or Figma plugin within 6-12 months. Would show Flinto trying to counter Figma AI instead of drifting into irrelevance.
Flinto goes 12+ months with no changelog update after v26. Would confirm quiet maintenance mode or possible unannounced shutdown.
Figma AI adds hand-tunable spring/easing animation controls matching Flinto's core feature. Would show Figma closing the last differentiator that keeps Mac designers on Flinto.

Questions people ask
Is Flinto still being actively developed in 2026?
Flinto is in maintenance mode. Its most recent update, version 26 (Sticky Tools and Shape Expand), only shipped minor UX and performance fixes like faster large-document handling and Sketch import reliability, with no AI features and no major new capabilities added.
Could AI replace Flinto?
Largely yes for casual use. Figma AI, expanded through Figma Config in May 2025, bundles text-to-design, automated layer naming, and Dev Mode code generation into one subscription, covering much of the static-to-animated prototype workflow Flinto historically served.
Who owns Flinto and is it VC funded?
Flinto is privately owned by co-founders Nathan Manousos and Kazuho Okui, who founded it in San Francisco in 2012. Manousos stated in an October 2014 interview that Flinto is not VC funded and the pair are just trying to make a living from the product.
How big is the Flinto team?
Flinto's own About page lists only two named team members, co-founders Nathan Manousos and Kazuho Okui, indicating a very small, founder-run operation as of the most recent available company statements.
Is Flinto profitable or growing?
No public revenue or growth figures are available. G2 shows only 26 reviews at 4.0 out of 5 for Flinto, versus 1,306 reviews at 4.7 for Figma, a weak signal that Flinto's user base has stayed small relative to the category leader.
Who is Flinto's biggest competitor?
Figma is Flinto's dominant competitor, having gone public in 2025 at roughly a 19.3 billion dollar valuation with over 1 billion dollars in trailing twelve month revenue and about 86 percent adoption among professional design teams per third party comparisons.
