The call

GBG stays profitable and embedded in compliance workflows while bigger rivals nibble at its US growth and AI reshapes how identity gets checked.

GBG sells software that verifies who people are and spots fraud for banks, insurance companies, and government agencies around the world. It is hard to replace because banks are legally required to use identity checkers and fraud tools, and GBG is already built into their systems, but the bigger companies like Experian and LexisNexis are copying what GBG does and selling it cheaper or bundled with other services, while AI tools that can detect fake documents and deepfakes are getting better and cheaper every month. The one thing that could change the picture is whether GBG's new AI product called GBG Go starts winning real customers and pushes growth above 3 percent in the next year; if it does not, the company will keep printing cash but stop growing, and investors will lose interest.

Why
01
AI pressure: Deepfake and liveness-detection AI tools plus rivals' AI-based document checks. AI-made fake IDs and deepfakes threaten to outpace document checks, but GBG builds its own AI into Foresight and GBG Go to keep up. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Experian, LexisNexis Risk Solutions, Equifax. Bigger data-rich rivals are consolidating identity and fraud tools around GBG, already forcing a write-down in its US business. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Licensed government and bureau data plus deep embedding in regulated AML and KYC workflows that are costly to rip out.
What would change this call
H1 FY27 results (~Nov 2026) show organic growth still under 5% for two straight halves. GBG Go pipeline is not converting fast enough to offset incumbent share gains.
Another goodwill impairment in Americas Identity segment in FY27 annual review. US competitive losses to Experian/LexisNexis/Equifax are continuing, not a one-off.
Global Fraud Solutions segment revenue stays flat or declines past July 2026 AGM commentary. Slower fraud-segment sales cycles reflect real demand softness, not just timing.

Questions people ask
Is GBG (GB Group) profitable in 2026?
GBG reported FY26 adjusted operating profit of about 67.5m pounds at a 23.7% margin on revenue of 285.0m pounds as of 2026-03-31, but posted a statutory net loss of roughly 75.1m pounds due to a 73.1m pound goodwill impairment in its Americas Identity business.
Could AI replace GBG's identity verification business?
Core document and biometric checks are commoditizable by frontier AI and deepfake detectors, but GBG's licensed government/bureau data, regulatory embeddedness under AML/KYC rules, and its GBG Trust fraud network resist replacement. GBG itself ships AI via Foresight analytics, launched by 2026-03-30.
Who are GBG's biggest competitors?
GBG competes with Jumio, Onfido (now owned by Entrust since April 2024), Trulioo, Persona, Sumsub, and Veriff, while larger incumbents Experian, LexisNexis Risk Solutions, and Equifax are consolidating the identity data sector; Equifax became a formal GBG partner in May 2026.
Is GBG laying off employees?
Third-party data from Revelio Labs shows GBG headcount fell to about 1,330 by December 2025, down 9.1% from 1,463 in 2023, with a trough of 1,321 in Q2 2025, consistent with cost efficiency moves like retiring a legacy platform in FY26.
Is GBG growing revenue?
GBG's FY26 revenue reached 285.0m pounds as of 2026-03-31, up only about 1% reported (3.2% constant currency), following FY25 revenue of 282.7m pounds. Growth is described by the company as accelerating to mid-single digits in H2 FY26 and Q1 FY27.
