The call

Geotab is large, profitable, and entrenched in fleets worldwide, but Samsara's public capital and AI-driven video features are pulling ahead in the segments that matter most next.

Geotab makes software that tracks and manages vehicle fleets for thousands of customers using devices installed in cars and trucks. It is hard to replace because it has special government certifications, its own hardware devices, and hundreds of partner companies built around it, but Samsara, a newer public competitor, is winning customers faster in video telematics and government contracts and has higher customer satisfaction scores. The one thing that could change everything is if Samsara keeps taking Geotab's customers faster than the overall market grows, which would turn a competitive race into a real threat to Geotab's survival.

Why
01
AI pressure: Geotab Ace (in-house AI assistant) plus Samsara's AI-powered video and dash cam analytics. AI mostly feeds Geotab's own product (Ace) so far, but Samsara's AI-driven video/safety features are winning deals in a segment Geotab trails. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Samsara (NYSE:IOT). Samsara leads video telematics and US government fleet share, and is public with more capital to spend on sales and R&D than founder-owned Geotab. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Geotab owns 6 million vehicle data streams, FedRAMP/FIPS certifications, and 700+ integration partners that make ripping it out costly for customers.
What would change this call
Independent research (ABI, Berg Insight) on video telematics share over the next 2-3 quarters. Shows whether Samsara's lead over Geotab in this segment is widening or narrowing.
Court rulings in the Fractus and Omega Patents litigation against Geotab. Would show if hardware licensing costs rise, pressuring Geotab's margins.
Any public filing or announcement about a change in Geotab's founder ownership or an IPO. Would reveal a liquidity event or ownership shift not currently disclosed.
