The call

Gogolook is growing and profitable on the strength of its scam database and government ties, but it still leans heavily on one consumer app facing slow pressure from phone makers' built-in filters.

Gogolook makes apps and software that help people identify and block scam calls and texts, mainly in Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia. It is hard to copy because it has collected a huge database of scam phone numbers and websites over many years, and it has direct partnerships with police and governments in its region, plus deals with phone companies to filter scams at the network level. The biggest threat is that Apple and Google are building their own spam filters into phones, which could slowly make Gogolook less necessary, though this has not happened yet; another competitor is Truecaller, a Swedish app used by millions globally. The company's biggest weakness is that two-thirds of its money comes from consumers rather than businesses, so if people stop using the consumer app because their phones already filter spam, the whole company gets hurt.

Why
01
AI pressure: Google/Apple on-device spam and scam call filtering. Phone makers keep adding built-in scam filters, which could make a standalone caller ID app less needed over time. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Truecaller. Truecaller already runs a similar caller ID and scam-block product across 450M+ users and keeps expanding into Asia. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Government and police partnerships plus a large regional scam number and domain database that a new entrant cannot buy or copy quickly.
What would change this call
Whoscall MAU or consumer revenue flattens/declines for 2-3 straight quarters. Would show OS-level spam filters finally eroding Gogolook's core user base.
Truecaller launches a government-partnered anti-scam product in Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, or Philippines. Would show a scaled rival replicating Gogolook's regulatory/data moat.
Hon Hai CityGPT, StarHub, or Globe/RCBC partnerships convert to booked recurring revenue by Q2 2026 earnings. Would show B2G/corporate diversification is real, reducing consumer concentration risk.
Key numbers

Named risks
  • 63% of FY2025 revenue concentrated in consumer Whoscall app, exposed to OS-level spam filter erosion. Severity: medium
  • Corporate/B2G partnerships (Hon Hai, StarHub, Globe, RCBC) remain in early collaboration phase, not yet fully booked revenue. Severity: medium
  • Low analyst coverage (1 analyst) and thin liquidity produce sharp stock price swings. Severity: low
  • Unresolved ownership contradiction: one aggregator calls Gogolook a Naver subsidiary despite dispersed shareholder table. Severity: low
