The call

Grid Dynamics has cash and rising AI revenue, but its core coding business is slowing while bigger rivals can copy its new platform.

Grid Dynamics helps companies build custom software and is now trying to sell them AI management software instead. The old business is getting squeezed because AI tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude can write code faster and cheaper than hiring developers, and bigger consulting firms like Accenture can easily copy whatever Grid Dynamics builds. The company has lots of cash in the bank and no debt, which keeps it alive, but whether it survives depends on whether enough customers actually use and stick with their new AI platform and keep paying for it year after year before the old consulting business shrinks too much.

Why
01
AI pressure: GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code and similar AI coding tools. These tools cut the billable hours needed per feature, squeezing the custom-coding work Grid Dynamics has historically sold. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Accenture, Cognizant, TCS, Infosys, and EPAM. All are bigger, can copy Grid Dynamics' GAIN platform pitch, and can underprice it with more scale and more balance sheet. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. $327.5M cash with zero debt buys time to prove the GAIN platform before the core coding business erodes further.
What would change this call
Q2 2026 earnings (July 30, 2026) show total revenue growth reaccelerating to 8%+ or staying below 4%. Indicates whether the GAIN platform pivot is offsetting core labor-revenue deceleration.
Grid Dynamics discloses recurring/subscription revenue figures or net-retention data for GAIN platform. Shows whether GAIN is becoming sticky recurring revenue or remains rebadged consulting.
Any top-5 client (40.8% of revenue) publicly ends or materially reduces its contract. Would show customer concentration risk turning into actual revenue loss.
Key numbers
  • Q1 2026 revenue grew only 3.7% YoY, down from 12% in FY2025 (2026-04-30)
  • AI-related revenue hit 29.3% of total, up ~60% YoY (2026-05-01)
  • Top 5 clients account for 40.8% of revenue (2026-04-29)
Named risks
  • Core time-and-materials engineering revenue directly exposed to AI-assisted coding tools compressing billable hours. Severity: high
  • Customer concentration rising, with top-5 clients at 40.8% and top-10 at 59.7% of revenue as of Q1 2026. Severity: high
  • GAIN platform is new and unproven with no published recurring-revenue or retention data. Severity: medium
  • Growth decelerated from 12% FY2025 to 3.7% Q1 2026, undermining premium valuation. Severity: medium
  • Removal from S&P SmallCap 600 as of June 30, 2026 may reduce passive-fund ownership and liquidity. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Grid Dynamics profitable in 2026?
Grid Dynamics posted GAAP net income of $9.7M for FY2025 (diluted EPS $0.11), but slipped to a GAAP net loss of $1.5M in Q1 2026 even as non-GAAP net income was $7.5M ($0.09/share), as of April 30, 2026.
Could AI coding tools replace Grid Dynamics?
Jefferies downgraded Grid Dynamics on May 29, 2026, citing that AI-led coding progress shows no signs of slowing, directly threatening its time-and-materials engineering revenue, which still makes up the bulk of its $104.1M Q1 2026 revenue.
Who is Grid Dynamics' biggest competitor?
EPAM Systems is Grid Dynamics' closest direct peer, with FY2025 revenue of about $5.46B versus Grid Dynamics' $411.8M; larger scale players like Accenture, Cognizant, TCS, and Infosys also compete for the same Fortune 1000 clients.
Is Grid Dynamics growing or slowing down in 2026?
Revenue growth decelerated sharply from +12% in FY2025 to +3.7% YoY in Q1 2026 ($104.1M), even though AI-related revenue hit a record 29.3% of total revenue and grew about 60% YoY, per the April 30, 2026 earnings release.
What is Grid Dynamics' GAIN platform and does it matter?
GAIN Platform for AI SDLC combines Allium, Rosetta, and SpecFlow tools with Forward Deployed Engineers to govern AI coding agents inside client environments; it launched in 2026 but has no published retention or recurring-revenue data yet.
Who owns Grid Dynamics?
Grid Dynamics Holdings, Inc. is an independent public company on Nasdaq under ticker GDYN, with no parent company; it went public via SPAC merger with ChaSerg Technology Acquisition Corp. on March 5, 2020, at an implied market cap of about $660M.
