The call

H World keeps growing profit and pipeline on its franchise model while rivals like IHG move faster on AI booking tools it has yet to match.

H World is a Chinese hotel company that owns or franchises thousands of hotels across the country and has built up a huge customer loyalty program. It makes money reliably and generates cash, which makes it hard to knock off because it has deep relationships with the people who run its franchises, a big network of hotels, and direct connections to customers through its loyalty app. The real threat is not that a competitor will steal its business, but that AI travel apps like ChatGPT could become the first place people search for hotels instead of using H World's app, and right now H World has only talked vaguely about investing in AI rather than shipping a competing tool that lets customers book through conversation, unlike its rival IHG which already did that.

Why
01
AI pressure: ChatGPT-style travel assistants and AI booking search. AI chat apps can now search and book hotels directly, pulling travelers away from H World's own app and site before they ever see H Rewards. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: IHG Hotels & Resorts. IHG launched a ChatGPT booking app in June 2026 while H World has only talked about 'AI investment' without a matching product. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. 310 million H Rewards members and 13,215 mostly franchised hotels give H World direct booking traffic that AI search still has to route through.
