The call

IFS keeps its grip on customers already running its software, but SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft are closing the AI feature gap fast, and its own growth rate is already slowing.

IFS sells computer systems that help factories, power plants, and airlines run their operations, the kind of software that companies rely on for years because ripping it out is painful and expensive. Right now, IFS has an advantage because it built its system specifically for these tough, rule-heavy industries, while giants like SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft built theirs for everyone. But those giants are pouring money into AI features that do the same work IFS does, and by 2027 they may be just as good; plus IFS's own salespeople are hiring slower than the business is growing, which is a red flag that selling new customers is getting harder. The one thing that could flip this: if IFS's new Softeon acquisition (closing early 2026) lets it sell to customers the big guys can't reach, it buys time, but if SAP and Oracle start winning IFS's target customers with AI-powered software, it means IFS's special focus is no longer special.

Why
01
AI pressure: SAP, Oracle, Microsoft agentic AI features. Giants are shipping agentic AI inside their own ERPs, aiming to erase IFS's AI edge by 2027 per Gartner timelines. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: SAP, Oracle, Microsoft. All three are Gartner Leaders in the same ERP category, each 10 to 20x IFS's size, competing head to head for new logos. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep, multi-year system-of-record lock-in inside regulated industries like aerospace and utilities makes ripping out IFS costly and slow.
What would change this call
IFS reports FY2026 ARR growth rate in its next earnings update. A drop below 15% would suggest bigger rivals are winning new-logo deals.
Softeon acquisition closes and integrates into IFS's SCM roadmap by mid-2026. A stall or delay would show execution risk from rapid M&A pace.
Gartner's 2027 Magic Quadrant update on ERP platform orchestration criteria. Would show if SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft closed the AI feature gap on IFS.
Key numbers
  • FY2025 ARR grew 23%, down from 30%+ in FY2024 (2026-01-21)
  • Valued at over EUR 15 billion after Hg, ADIA, CPP joined (2025-04-09)
  • Headcount grew only 2.5% YoY vs 23% ARR growth (2026-07-01)
Named risks
  • SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft shipping feature-parity agentic AI by 2027 per Gartner could erode IFS's differentiation. Severity: high
  • Softeon acquisition integration, expected to close Q1 2026, could stall SCM roadmap if execution falters. Severity: medium
  • Headcount growth of only 2.5% YoY as of June 2026 versus 23% ARR growth raises unverified productivity claims. Severity: medium
  • Three acquisitions in 2025 (TheLoops, 7bridges, Softeon) raise integration execution risk. Severity: medium
  • Ownership fluidity with Hg, EQT, ADIA and CPP Investments could precede secondary sales or valuation reset. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is IFS profitable and growing in 2026?
IFS reported FY2025 ARR growth of 23% year over year, announced January 21, 2026, following FY2024 total revenue over EUR 1.2 billion and ARR that surpassed EUR 1 billion. The company holds a EUR 15 billion plus valuation as of April 2025, backed by EQT, Hg, ADIA and CPP Investments.
Who owns IFS?
IFS is privately held. EQT has been majority investor since 2015. In April 2025, Hg became co-control shareholder alongside EQT, with TA Associates, ADIA and CPP Investments as minority investors, in a deal valuing IFS at over EUR 15 billion, expected to close end of Q2 2025.
Who is IFS's biggest competitor?
SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft are IFS's biggest rivals, all named Gartner Leaders alongside IFS in the 2025 Magic Quadrant for Cloud ERP for Product-Centric Enterprises (October 30, 2025). These three are 10 to 20 times larger by revenue and are shipping comparable agentic AI features.
Could AI replace IFS's core ERP software?
Generic AI is unlikely to fully replace IFS's system-of-record role in regulated industries like aerospace and energy, due to deep workflow lock-in. But Google Cloud's Visual Inspection AI, claimed to offer a 10x accuracy improvement in manufacturing QC, shows hyperscalers building adjacent vertical AI tools that could erode IFS's differentiation.
What is IFS doing with AI in its own products?
IFS made three AI-related acquisitions in 2025 alone: TheLoops (June 2025, launching 'IFS Loops Digital Workers'), 7bridges (August 2025, supply chain AI), and Softeon (announced December 17, 2025, expected to close Q1 2026). It also shipped agentic copilots in IFS Cloud 25R2, released November 27, 2025.
Will IFS go public or sell more equity?
No IPO has been announced as of July 2026. IFS remains private with EQT and Hg as co-control shareholders following an April 2025 transaction valuing the company at over EUR 15 billion, with ADIA and CPP Investments as minority investors; a secondary or IPO event has not been confirmed.
