The call

Immuta still solves a real cross-cloud governance problem, but Databricks and Snowflake are building that same solution into their own products for free.

Immuta helps companies control who sees what data across Snowflake and Databricks without tying them to one vendor. The problem: Snowflake just added Horizon and Databricks added Unity Catalog, both doing similar work built directly into their platforms. Snowflake and Databricks have little reason to let a middleman stay between them and their customers, and Immuta's own AI tools are starting to automate what humans used to do manually, making the whole category feel more like a commodity. The one thing that could save it: if Immuta can land big enterprise customers for its AI-powered access automation and actually announce the size of those deals, it might prove the market still needs a standalone layer instead of letting each cloud build one alone.

Why
01
AI pressure: Immuta's own Copilot plus platform-native policy AI in Databricks and Snowflake. AI can now write and recommend access policies itself, the exact task Immuta charges humans to configure and review. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Databricks (Unity Catalog RBAC) and Snowflake (Horizon), with Microsoft Purview pushing cross-platform. Databricks and Snowflake now ship native governance for free inside their own platforms, shrinking the reason to buy a separate layer. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Enterprises running both Snowflake and Databricks still need one neutral policy layer neither vendor will build for the other.
What would change this call
Immuta announces a new priced funding round with disclosed ARR figure. Would show investors still back the neutral-layer thesis at scale.
Snowflake or Databricks ships full cross-platform governance federation. Would show the platforms are closing Immuta's cross-cloud gap directly.
Immuta discloses named enterprise wins with ACVs for Agentic Data Access. Would show the new category is real revenue, not just messaging.

Questions people ask
Is Immuta profitable in 2026?
Immuta does not publicly disclose profitability or exact revenue. The company reported ARR growth of 200% year over year as of February 27, 2023, per its own press release, but no profitability figures have been disclosed since.
Who owns Immuta?
Immuta is privately held and venture backed, founded in 2015 by Matthew Carroll, Steven Touw, and Sapan Shah. Investors include NightDragon, Snowflake Ventures, ServiceNow, and Databricks Ventures, the latter two joining via Series E extensions in 2023.
Could AI replace Immuta?
Immuta's own Immuta AI and Copilot, launched March 3, 2025, automate policy authoring and access decisions that governance analysts once did manually. The company is repositioning around governing AI agents themselves via Agentic Data Access, launched March 24, 2026.
Is Snowflake or Databricks Immuta's biggest competitor?
Both are simultaneously partners and threats: Databricks Unity Catalog RBAC and Snowflake Horizon ship native governance that could absorb Immuta's category, even though Databricks Ventures and Snowflake Ventures have invested in Immuta as of 2022 to 2023.
Has Immuta raised new funding recently?
Immuta's last disclosed capital events were Series E extensions from ServiceNow (February 27, 2023) and Databricks Ventures (May 15, 2023). A private secondary transaction was recorded closing December 15, 2025, but no new priced round has been disclosed since the 2022 Series E.
What is Immuta's flagship product in 2026?
Agentic Data Access, introduced March 24, 2026, treats AI agents as first class identities with zero standing privileges and just in time access, extended to Snowflake's AI Data Cloud on June 2, 2026 and to Databricks on June 15, 2026.
