The call

InEight survives because Kiewit backs it and its customers face high switching costs, but it lags Procore and Oracle in shipping AI features for the same construction buyers.

InEight makes software that helps construction companies manage huge, regulated projects like nuclear plants and highways. It has real customers who rely on it for compliance and audits, and it is backed by its parent company Kiewit, which means it will not vanish overnight. But it is the third or fourth player in its market, and much bigger competitors like Procore and Oracle are already building AI tools into their products and selling directly to the same customers. The one thing that could change everything is whether InEight can ship its own AI features that customers actually want and can win some major new customers outside of Kiewit's own projects each year.

Why
01
AI pressure: Procore Copilot and Agents. Procore already ships AI for RFIs, scheduling, and submittals at 13x InEight's scale, pulling capital-project buyers its way. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Oracle Primavera/Aconex and Procore. Oracle dominates $1B+ mega-project document control and Procore outguns InEight on size, both compete directly for the same accounts. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Kiewit ownership guarantees InEight survives, and compliance-heavy workflows make customers slow to switch systems.
What would change this call
Procore or Oracle announces a named capital-project win taken from InEight within 12 months. Would show larger rivals' AI tools are actively converting InEight's core customers.
InEight completes full FedRAMP authorization for InEight Document, beyond current Ready status. Would show InEight can unlock federal contracts currently blocked by compliance status.
InEight names 2-3 new marquee customers outside the Kiewit network within a year. Would show the product can grow beyond its captive parent-company customer base.

Questions people ask
Is InEight owned by Kiewit?
Yes. InEight is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, rebranded from Kiewit's internal technology group in 2014. It has no external venture funding and no independent IPO path, relying on Kiewit for capital and its anchor customer relationship as of 2026-07-14.
Is InEight profitable?
No independent financial disclosures exist since InEight is a private Kiewit subsidiary. ZoomInfo estimates its revenue at $111.3 million (unspecified period, third-party modeled, as of 2026-07-14); no profit or loss figures have been published.
Could AI replace InEight's software?
AI is more likely to erode InEight's edge than replace it outright. Cost estimating, scheduling risk, and document summarization are exposed, and rival Procore has already shipped Copilot and Agents for RFIs and scheduling as of 2026-07-23, per an independent Wikipedia summary.
Who is InEight's biggest competitor?
Procore Technologies is the most direct competitive threat, estimated by ZoomInfo at roughly $1.4 billion in revenue (2026-07-14), about 13 times InEight's estimated scale, and Procore has already shipped AI Copilot and Agents features InEight has not matched.
Has InEight had layoffs?
There is no confirmed layoff announcement, but Revelio Labs data shows headcount fell from a peak of roughly 701 to 708 in 2023 to about 652 by December 2025, a 5.2% decline, before job postings rebounded 67% year over year in 2025.
Does InEight have any real AI product, or is it just marketing?
As of mid-2026, InEight markets 'Report & Explore Data for Outcome-Driven AI' and previously called its BASIS tool 'the world's first AI-based project planning and risk management system' (a vendor claim), but no independent, customer-validated proof of AI effectiveness has been found.
