The call

The product's data plumbing is hard to rip out, but under Salesforce ownership headcount is shrinking and renewals are slipping even as the roadmap keeps shipping.

Informatica helps large companies move and organize data between different systems, like connecting their accounting software to their customer database. It is hard to replace because it connects to hundreds of systems and companies rely on it for following rules and keeping data clean, but cheaper tools like Fivetran and Airbyte are eating away at the simpler work, and artificial intelligence can now write basic data pipelines automatically. The big question is whether Salesforce will keep investing in Informatica as a separate business or merge it into their other products, if the company cuts staff or lets customer renewal rates drop below 85 percent by late 2026, employees may face layoffs despite the product itself surviving.

Why
01
AI pressure: Fivetran/dbt plus AI coding agents that auto-generate pipelines. AI writes routine pipeline and transformation code fast, but Informatica's governed MDM and connector library still feed that AI rather than get replaced by it. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Salesforce (its new parent, via MuleSoft and Data 360 overlap). Salesforce closed the $8B buyout in November 2025 and is folding Informatica into MuleSoft and Data 360, cutting headcount and renewal rates as it consolidates. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Deep MDM system-of-record status and 300+ enterprise connectors that big regulated customers cannot easily rip out.
What would change this call
Salesforce FY2027 Q2 filing shows Informatica cloud ARR growth rate (mid to late 2026). Below 20% YoY growth would show customer losses accelerating post-acquisition.
Maintenance renewal rate reported at or below 85% in future disclosures. Would confirm accelerating customer attrition beyond the drop already seen.
Further Informatica headcount cuts reported by Crustdata or Revelio Labs through Q4 2026. Would show Salesforce consolidating operations rather than growing the business independently.
Key numbers
  • $8B acquisition closed at $25/share (Nov 2025)
  • Renewal rate fell to 89% from 96% (Nov 2025)
  • Headcount down ~51% YoY per Crustdata (Jul 2026)
Named risks
  • Maintenance renewal rate fell from 96% to 89% amid acquisition uncertainty, mid 2025. Severity: high
  • Conflicting headcount trackers show steep declines, up to -51% YoY by July 2026 per Crustdata, signaling consolidation. Severity: high
  • Standalone financial transparency ended after November 2025 delisting, reducing external visibility into unit performance. Severity: medium
  • Internal redundancy with Salesforce's MuleSoft and Data 360 could marginalize Informatica's independent product roadmap. Severity: medium
  • Agentic AI roadmap items slated for Q3/Q4 2026 (Data Steward Agent, MDM-Data 360 integration) could slip. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Informatica still a publicly traded company?
No. Salesforce completed its acquisition of Informatica on November 18, 2025 for about $8 billion ($25/share cash), and Informatica was delisted from the NYSE and rebranded 'Informatica from Salesforce.'
Who owns Informatica now?
Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) owns Informatica outright as a wholly owned subsidiary since the acquisition closed November 18, 2025, folding Informatica's finances into Salesforce's consolidated results going forward.
Is Informatica growing or shrinking financially?
Cloud Subscription ARR reached $969 million in Q3 2025 (+29.5% YoY, reported November 5, 2025), its last quarter as a standalone public company, but maintenance renewal rate fell to 89% from 96% amid acquisition uncertainty.
Could AI replace what Informatica does?
AI is compressing routine ETL pipeline-building and rule-writing, Informatica's own CLAIRE Data Quality Agent (GA Spring 2026) now auto-generates data quality rules, but its deep MDM, governance, and 300+ enterprise connectors remain harder for AI or rivals to replicate.
Who is Informatica's biggest competitor?
Fivetran (now merged with dbt Labs after acquiring Census in 2025) and Qlik Talend pressure the commodity ETL layer, while MuleSoft, Informatica's own sister product inside Salesforce since November 2025, creates internal roadmap redundancy risk.
Did Informatica lay off workers after the Salesforce deal?
Third-party trackers diverge sharply: Revelio Labs put headcount at ~6,502 in December 2025 (down 4.9% YoY), while Crustdata reported ~2,680 employees by July 2026 (down ~51% YoY), which it attributes to post-acquisition consolidation.
