Data and analytics companies

101 companies assessed. 65 of them, 64.4%, sit in the two least protected bands, against 53.3% across all 10,525 companies assessed.

The picture

Data and analytics companies are being squeezed from two directions at once. Cloud platforms like Databricks, Snowflake, and the big hyperscalers are building semantic layers, AI copilots, and native metrics tools directly into their platforms, which quietly kills the reason to buy a separate BI tool, ETL pipeline, or OLAP engine. At the same time, open-source and cheaper AI-native rivals (ClickHouse, DuckDB, StarRocks, PostHog) undercut the older on-prem and mid-market players on price while shipping AI features faster. The companies holding up own something that's hard to copy: real data gravity (Databricks, Alibaba Cloud), a sticky national ERP or invoicing habit (Douzone Bizon, Sansan), or a plumbing job too critical to rip out (Ab Initio, Cribl). The companies losing ground are the ones selling a single-purpose tool that a platform vendor can now offer for free as a feature: standalone CDPs, standalone OLAP engines, standalone dashboards, standalone data-labeling shops. The one thing that decides survival is whether a company's core product can get swallowed as a checkbox inside someone else's platform.

Questions people ask
Why is Domo losing customers to Power BI and Tableau?
Domo has confirmed that 34% of churned customers cite cheaper AI-native alternatives like Sigma and ThoughtSpot, while Microsoft and Salesforce bundle Power BI and Tableau with AI copilots customers already pay for.
Are Chinese analytics companies like GrowingIO and Sensors Data at risk?
GrowingIO is rated little protection left with high pressure as Sensors Data and platform bundles from Alibaba Cloud, Tencent, and ByteDance pull away China CDP customers. Sensors Data itself faces pressure too, from peers like TalkingData and ThinkingData competing on AI feature speed.
What happened to EdgeDB and Great Expectations?
EdgeDB shut down and its users moved to Neon, Supabase, PlanetScale, and similar Postgres-based tools. Great Expectations was dismantled in May 2026, with FICO taking its cloud customers and Fivetran absorbing its open-source core.
Which data companies are holding up best against AI disruption?
Databricks, Alibaba Cloud, Sansan, Douzone Bizon, Ab Initio, and Cribl all show low pressure scores and no documented customer losses, because they either own critical infrastructure or run pipelines too central to rip out.
Why are ETL and data pipeline companies like Hevo and Informatica struggling?
Fivetran and dbt Labs merged into a larger, better-funded platform that's pulling customers from smaller players like Hevo, whose revenue fell 17.5% in FY25. Informatica's renewal rate dropped from 96% to 89% after being folded into Salesforce.
