The call

Inovance still dominates its home market and keeps growing revenue, but profit margins are slipping just as export and customer-concentration risks pile up.

Inovance makes electric motors, controls, and power equipment used in Chinese factories and electric vehicles. It has held about one-quarter of China's market for these products because Chinese policy favors local suppliers over foreign companies like Siemens, and factory owners have built Inovance parts into their systems over years. However, three problems hit at once in mid-2026: the company's profits dropped even though sales grew, the US banned exports of its robot and power products starting July 29, and its biggest electric-vehicle customers are starting to make these parts themselves instead of buying from Inovance. The core Chinese business should stay profitable for years, but the growth story that excited investors in Hong Kong is now in question.

Why
01
AI pressure: Foundational Industries-style AI-native factory concepts. Software-defined, AI-run factories could someday skip discrete drive/servo hardware, but nothing shipped yet. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Estun Automation and Delta Electronics. Domestic rivals already sell competing VFDs and servos in China, and margin data hints they are squeezing pricing. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. China's domestic-substitution push and deep OEM integration make Inovance hard for foreign giants like Siemens or ABB to dislodge locally.
What would change this call
Inovance's Q2 2026 earnings release on August 29, 2026 shows recurring net profit trend. Confirms whether margin compression seen in Q1 2026 is deepening or stabilizing.
A top-3 Chinese NEV maker such as BYD announces in-house powertrain electronics production. Would show the ~33%-of-revenue NEV customer base is starting to disintermediate Inovance.
Estun Automation or Delta Electronics report gains in China low-voltage VFD/servo market share in 2026 filings. Would show domestic rivals are actually converting Inovance's customers, not just pressuring pricing.

Questions people ask
Is Inovance Technology profitable in 2026?
Yes. Inovance reported FY2025 net profit attributable to shareholders of CNY5.05 billion, up 17.84% year over year, on revenue of CNY45.10 billion, up 21.77% YoY, as of April 28, 2026. However, Q1 2026 recurring net profit fell about 15% YoY despite revenue growth of about 13%, signaling margin compression.
Is Inovance planning a Hong Kong IPO?
Yes. Inovance hired Bank of America, CICC, Guotai Junan International and Morgan Stanley in March 2026 for a Hong Kong secondary listing that could raise up to US2 billion. By May 2026 it filed its HKEX prospectus targeting roughly US2 billion, citing storage/PCS growth. No confirmed listing date existed as of July 2026.
Who is Inovance Technology's biggest competitor?
Globally, Siemens is the dominant automation incumbent, reportedly generating about 75.9 billion EUR in 2024 revenue versus Inovance's estimated US5 billion (a vendor-claimed comparison). Domestically, Estun Automation and Delta Electronics are named as aggressive Chinese challengers in robotics and power electronics as of 2026.
Could AI replace Inovance Technology's products?
Not directly. Inovance's hardware, drives, servos, PLCs, is not itself AI-replaceable, but AI-native software-defined factory startups like Foundational Industries pose a long-term structural threat to component-supplier business models, as flagged in coverage dated July 30, 2026. Inovance's own AI work remains limited to early humanoid-component development.
Does Inovance make humanoid robot parts?
Yes. Since September 2025 Inovance has said it is developing key components for humanoid robots. By July 27, 2026 it reported securing component design wins and a seven-degree-of-freedom bionic arm undergoing client validation, targeting limited-volume sales in 2026, though a US FCC import ban on July 29, 2026 now threatens US market access.
Is it risky for a NEV maker to depend on Inovance for powertrain electronics?
There is flagged risk. NEV sales made up roughly 33% of Inovance's estimated FY2024 revenue mix and grew 96% in Q3 2025, but analysts as of June 30, 2026 warn that automaker customers could increasingly in-house powertrain component production, threatening this large revenue segment.
