The call

Fluid earns real fees but is bleeding TVL, paused its own buybacks after a bad-debt hit, and sits far below Aave in scale with no clear way to stop bigger protocols from copying its design.

Instadapp lets people borrow and lend crypto across multiple pools in one place, earning about $12.5 million a year. The problem is that Aave, which is 100 times larger, is copying Instadapp's main idea, and AI tools like INFINIT are starting to automate what Instadapp does by hand. Instadapp also had a $21 million loss when a related platform failed, and its total customer deposits have dropped 60 percent since last fall, suggesting users are leaving for competitors or waiting to see if things improve.

Why
01
AI pressure: INFINIT (AI-agent DeFi execution platform). INFINIT pitches AI agents that route trades and loans automatically, positioning itself against Fluid's manual aggregation model. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Aave (V3 live, V4 building unified liquidity). Aave holds $13.5B to $76.6B in TVL versus Fluid's under $800M and is building V4 toward the same unified-liquidity design. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Real fee revenue (~$12.5M annualized) and a working unified-liquidity design that other protocols have not yet matched at scale.
What would change this call
Fluid TVL trend over the next two quarters (currently $630M-$790M, down from $1.9B). Whether liquidity outflow to rivals like Aave and Morpho Blue continues or stabilizes.
Whether Fluid resumes its FLUID token buyback without another bad-debt event. Whether treasury health and investor confidence are recovering post-Resolv.
Aave V4's shipped features on unified liquidity versus Fluid's retained market share. Whether Aave directly overtakes Fluid's core technical differentiator.
Key numbers
  • TVL fell to $630M-$790M, down 60% from $1.9B peak (2026-07-20)
  • Annualized protocol revenue ~$12.5M (2026-07-19)
  • Treasury absorbed ~$21M bad debt from Resolv exploit (2026-05)
Named risks
  • Architectural contagion: bad debt from any integrated protocol flows to Fluid's treasury, as with $21M Resolv loss in May 2026. Severity: high
  • TVL down roughly 60% from September 2025 peak, signaling mercenary liquidity flight. Severity: high
  • Token buyback program paused since May 2026, straining token holder trust. Severity: medium
  • Repeated security incidents, including a $215K compromised-key exploit on May 31, 2026. Severity: medium
  • Aave V4 and Morpho Blue actively building toward the same unified-liquidity niche with far larger scale. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Instadapp (Fluid) profitable in 2026?
Fluid, the rebranded Instadapp protocol, reports annualized protocol revenue of about $12.5M and annualized fees of about $73M as of July 19, 2026, per DefiLlama-tracked data, but its token buyback program has been paused since May 2026 after absorbing $21M in bad debt.
Could AI replace Instadapp's product?
A May 27, 2026 vendor comparison explicitly frames AI-agent platform INFINIT against Instadapp's older manual, one-click aggregation model, arguing goal-driven AI execution could supersede Instadapp's original DeFi Smart Account UI, though Fluid's on-chain liquidity infrastructure is harder to replicate.
Who is Instadapp's biggest competitor?
Aave is the dominant threat: Aave's TVL ranges from $13.5B to $76.6B versus Fluid's roughly $630M-$790M as of July 2026, and Aave V4 is explicitly building toward the same unified-liquidity model Fluid pioneered, per Aave's own architecture blog.
Did Instadapp rebrand to Fluid?
Yes. In December 2024 Instadapp rebranded its protocol to Fluid, with the FLUID governance token replacing the old INST token 1:1, as the company shifted from a DeFi middleware aggregator to a vertically integrated lending and DEX liquidity layer.
What is Fluid's TVL as of mid-2026?
Fluid's total value locked was roughly $630M-$790M across six chains as of July 20, 2026, down about 60% from its September 2025 peak of roughly $1.9B, according to analyst commentary citing DefiLlama data.
Has Fluid (Instadapp) been hacked?
Fluid's treasury absorbed about $21M in bad debt in May 2026 from an exploit of an external integrated protocol, Resolv, and separately suffered a $215,000 exploit on Fluid Lending on May 31, 2026 attributed to a compromised private key.
