The call

ISG's sourcing platform keeps enterprise clients locked in, but its research subscriptions face live AI substitution while revenue growth stays thin.

ISG helps large companies find and manage their IT service providers through a platform called Tango and advisory work. It has genuine advantages: it stays neutral (not pushing its own services like the Big Four do), it has deep relationships with 900+ major clients, and its Tango platform locks in about $27 billion in active contracts. However, two forces are squeezing it. First, AI tools are now doing the research and vendor-comparison work that ISG charges for, and this substitution is happening right now, not someday. Second, much bigger companies like Gartner and the consulting giants (Deloitte, Accenture) could move into ISG's space if they wanted to. Right now ISG's revenue is basically flat year to year, so the question is whether its core platform and advisory business can grow faster than AI and larger rivals erode it.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generative AI tools (ChatGPT-style vendor comparison and benchmarking substitutes). Free AI tools now do vendor comparisons and benchmarking that used to require an ISG subscription. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Gartner. Gartner is about 30 times bigger and could push into sourcing advisory, but Big 4 firms stay conflicted out of neutral advice. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Tango platform's $27B in live contract value and 900+ enterprise clients lock in workflow that generic AI can't easily replace.
What would change this call
Q2 2026 earnings (Aug 5-6, 2026) show organic revenue growth above or below 3%. Tests whether Tango sourcing and AI-advisory work is converting to durable growth or just cost-cutting.
ISG headcount continues declining while adjusted EBITDA rises. Would show margin gains coming from cuts, not real demand expansion.
Gartner or a Big 4 firm launches a direct sourcing-advisory or Tango-like platform. Would signal ISG's neutral-advisor niche is being directly targeted.

Questions people ask
Is ISG (Information Services Group, Nasdaq: III) profitable in 2026?
Yes on an adjusted basis. ISG posted six consecutive quarters of adjusted EBITDA growth, with Q1 2026 adjusted EBITDA up 12% year over year and FY2025 adjusted EBITDA up 28% year over year, per its May 11, 2026 earnings call, even as GAAP revenue growth stayed flat to low single digits.
Could AI replace ISG's research and advisory business?
Partially. ISG itself flags that free AI tools add low-cost substitution pressure to benchmarking and vendor-comparison research, its most exposed segment. But its Tango sourcing platform, tied to over $27 billion in live contract value (company claim, May 2026), and human negotiation work are harder to automate away.
Has ISG had layoffs recently?
Headcount slipped from about 1,600 professionals in Q1-Q3 2025 to about 1,500 by the Q4 2025 and January 2026 releases, roughly a 6% reduction, even as ISG made small bolt-on hires like the ~40-person Martino & Partners acquisition in Italy in September 2025.
Who is ISG's biggest competitor?
Gartner, roughly $6 billion in revenue and about 17,000 employees as of June 2026 commentary, dwarfs ISG at 30 times its size. Closer peers competing directly in sourcing and tech advisory include Everest Group, HFS Research, Avasant, and Forrester, which reported about $537 million in revenue.
Is ISG stock (Nasdaq: III) a safe investment right now?
It carries real risk: as of July 21, 2026, ISG's market cap was about $193 million with shares at $3.96, down 59% from its all-time high of $9.70, and near its 52-week low of $3.74. No lawsuits or going-private talk were found, but growth remains flat.
Is ISG growing its revenue in 2026?
Growth is modest. FY2025 GAAP revenue was $244.7 million, down 1% year over year reported but up 7% excluding a divested automation unit. Q1 2026 revenue was $61.2 million, up 3% year over year, with Q2 2026 guidance of $62.5 million to $63.5 million issued May 7, 2026.
