The call

JD Logistics keeps growing fast on JD.com's coattails, but SF Express, Cainiao, and the parcel networks keep squeezing its margins in a business that runs on thin profit and heavy labor cost.

JD Logistics owns over 1,600 warehouses and handles delivery across China, making most of its money from JD.com orders and other customers. It is hard to copy because it has built real physical buildings, trucks, and staff, and JD.com sends it a steady stream of packages to deliver. However, competitors like SF Express, Cainiao (owned by Alibaba), and smaller networks like ZTO can all do the same thing, so prices keep getting pushed down and profits get squeezed, especially when volume grows but prices fall faster (like it did in late 2025). The one thing that matters most is whether the company can keep its profit margins steady even as rivals fight over customers, which a new leadership team will have to prove starting in the next earnings report.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI shows up inside JD Logistics as warehouse robotics and routing software, not as an outside force taking its customers. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: SF Express, Cainiao (Alibaba), and the ZTO/YTO/STO parcel networks. These rivals fight JD Logistics on price for the same parcel and warehousing contracts, and Q3 2025 showed that price war hitting profit. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Deep integration with JD.com's order flow, 1,600+ owned warehouses, and carrier licenses that take years to replicate.

Questions people ask
Is JD Logistics profitable in 2026?
Yes. JD Logistics reported Q1 2026 net profit of RMB 864.6 million, up 41.6% year over year, on revenue of RMB 60.58 billion, up 29.0% YoY. Non-GAAP operating income rose roughly 600% YoY, which management attributed to AI and robotics efficiency gains, as of March 31, 2026.
Who owns JD Logistics?
JD.com holds roughly 63 to 64% of JD Logistics as of mid to late 2025, giving it controlling voting power. JD Logistics itself trades separately on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under ticker 2618, having IPO'd there in May 2021 raising about US$3.2 billion.
Could AI replace JD Logistics's business?
No. AI automates picking, sorting and routing inside JD Logistics's warehouses, but the company's moat is physical: over 1,600 warehouses, 32 million-plus square meters of space, and licensed carrier status. AI is boosting margins (Q1 2026 operating income up ~600% YoY) rather than displacing the core logistics network.
Who is JD Logistics's biggest competitor?
SF Express, with an estimated 15% market share in 2024, is the largest integrated logistics rival, alongside Alibaba's asset-light Cainiao Network and volume-parcel networks like ZTO, YTO and STO. JD Logistics itself holds an estimated 4.1% integrated supply-chain share as of late 2025.
Did JD Logistics's profits fall recently?
Yes, in Q3 2025 revenue rose 24.1% YoY to RMB 155.08 billion but non-GAAP net profit fell roughly 19.7 to 21.5% YoY, coinciding with sector price wars and a CEO changeover. Profits recovered sharply by Q1 2026, up 41.6% YoY.
What is JD Logistics's flagship automation technology?
LangzuTech is JD Logistics's self-developed Goods-to-Person automated warehousing system. It was live in over 20 automated warehouses across roughly 20 Chinese cities by the end of 2025, with the first overseas facility opening in the UK in Q4 2025.
