Jito Labs
Jito Labs builds Solana's dominant MEV infrastructure and JitoSOL liquid staking token.
Jito still runs most of Solana's validator and staking infrastructure, but its core fee business has shrunk 25-fold and its future now hinges on an untested trading platform competing against much bigger players.
Jito Labs built software that lets Solana validators earn extra money by bundling transactions in a certain order, and most validators use it. However, competitors like Raiku and Astralane are launching the same thing, and Jito's profit swings wildly depending on whether crypto is booming or crashing. The company recently launched a trading app called JTX to make money from regular users, but it is competing against giant exchanges like Coinbase and Kraken where Jito has no real advantage. The one thing that could change everything: if Jito keeps losing share of Solana's transaction-bundling business to newer rivals, its original business falls apart faster than the trading app can make up for it.
JTX trading volume for two quarters post-July 2026 launch. Would show whether Jito's pivot into consumer trading can compete with Coinbase, Kraken, and Axiom.
SEC ruling on VanEck JitoSOL ETF from June 2026 proceedings. Would show whether institutional capital gains an easier path into JitoSOL staking.
- 95%+ of Solana stake runs Jito's validator client
- MEV revenue fell from $60M bull case to $2.4M annualized
- Tip-routing share over 60%, down from near-total dominance
- Core MEV revenue is highly cyclical, collapsing roughly 25x from bull-case peak to $2.4M annualized by May 2026.
- Tip-routing share diversifying to Astralane, Lil-JIT, Raiku, eroding validator-side moat.
- JTX is an unproven consumer product competing against established CEXs and Axiom.
- Most Block Engine, BAM, and JTX fees route to DAO treasury, not Jito Labs equity.
- VanEck JitoSOL ETF outcome pending SEC proceedings, denial could hurt institutional adoption.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Raiku | gaining on | raised $15M seed Sept 2025 to compete on block-building against Jito's BAM |
| Astralane | gaining on | captured share of Solana tip-routing volume from Jito in Q1 2026 |
| Lil-JIT | gaining on | diversified tip-routing volume away from Jito as of Q1 2026 |
| Coinbase, Kraken | contesting | JTX explicitly benchmarks trades against these incumbents via 'Good Trade' feature, July 2026 |
| Axiom | contesting | direct competitor to JTX in Solana consumer trading vertical launched July 21, 2026 |
- Is Jito Labs profitable in 2026?
- Unclear, but its core MEV revenue run-rate collapsed from a bull-case peak of roughly $60M/year to about $2.4M annualized by May 12, 2026, per CoinDesk research, showing revenue is highly cyclical to Solana speculative activity rather than steadily profitable.
- Who owns Jito Labs?
- Jito Labs is privately held at Series B stage. a16z crypto invested $50M via a private token sale on October 16, 2025, but that capital went to the Jito Foundation, a legally distinct nonprofit governing the JTO DAO, not to Jito Labs the operating company.
- Could AI replace Jito Labs?
- Not easily. Jito's moat is protocol-level distribution lock-in, with 95%+ of active Solana stake running its validator client as of July 9, 2026. AI mainly automates the searcher/bot side bidding into Jito's auction, not the validator-network moat itself.
- Who is Jito Labs' biggest competitor?
- In MEV infrastructure, funded rivals Raiku (raised $15M seed in September 2025), Astralane, and Lil-JIT are capturing tip-routing share as of Q1 2026. In its new JTX trading product, Jito competes against Axiom and incumbents Coinbase and Kraken.
- What is JTX and is it succeeding?
- JTX is Jito Labs' first consumer trading platform, opened to a 1,000-person waitlist July 14-15, 2026 and launched publicly July 21, 2026 at jtx.com. It is too new to show traction, and 80% of its fees route to the JTO DAO for buybacks under JIP-38, not to Jito Labs directly.
- Will Jito's JitoSOL ETF get approved by the SEC?
- Unresolved. The SEC instituted proceedings on VanEck's JitoSOL ETF rule change on June 23, 2026, with the comment period running into late July 2026; no approval or denial has been reported as of the filing date.
