Jungheinrich
German forklift and warehouse automation maker, #2 in Europe, #3-4 worldwide.
A century-old industrial player with real customer lock-in now facing a margin crunch, an open accounting review, and a slower start in warehouse automation than its size would suggest.
Jungheinrich makes forklifts, pallet jacks, and warehouse automation systems for factories and logistics centers across Europe and globally. It is hard to dislodge because it has service technicians in 40+ countries, its own lending division to help customers buy equipment, and customers who stick with the brand once installed, but Toyota Material Handling and KION Group (which owns STILL and Linde equipment) have the exact same advantages and are just as entrenched. The company's real risk is not being copied but becoming less important: as warehouses shift money toward robots and software that manage entire fleets, Jungheinrich is playing catch-up with automation, and cheaper Chinese competitors are eating the low end of the forklift business.
Q2 and Q3 2026 interim EBIT vs €380-450m guidance (due 11 Aug and 10 Nov 2026). Shows whether margin compression is temporary or structural.
H2 2026 commercial launch and sales uptake of EAC 212a robot. Shows whether Jungheinrich can catch up in automation versus Toyota and KION.

- Value migration toward automation/robotics software where Jungheinrich is a relative latecomer versus Toyota/KION.
- Low-end price competition from Chinese makers such as Hangcha and Anhui Heli.
- Residual execution risk from 2025 transformation programme and completed Russia divestment.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Material Handling | losing to | Cited as the larger global forklift maker with an established automation arm (Vanderlande/Bastian), as of 2026 |
| KION Group (Linde, STILL, Dematic) | contesting | German peer with an identical service/financing/automation model competing directly, as of 2026 |
| Hangcha and Anhui Heli (China) | gaining on | Cheaper Chinese makers undercutting the low end, prompting Jungheinrich's defensive AntOn brand and Qingpu OEM center, 2025-2026 |
- Is Jungheinrich profitable in 2026?
- Yes but margins are compressed. FY2025 EBIT fell to €228m (about 4.2% margin) from €434m in 2024, hit by a Russia impairment and restructuring costs. Jungheinrich guides 2026 EBIT of €380-450m on revenue of €5.2-5.8bn, per its May 2026 Q1 report.
- Is Jungheinrich under investigation?
- Yes. Germany's BaFin opened a review on 21 July 2026 into whether Jungheinrich's H1 2025 interim statements overstated short-term-rental trucks and inventories ahead of its Russia disposal impairment. Shares fell nearly 5% intraday on the news.
- Did Jungheinrich cut its dividend?
- Yes. Jungheinrich cut its dividend from €0.78 ordinary/€0.80 preferred to €0.27 ordinary/€0.29 preferred, announced with FY2025 results on 26 March 2026, reflecting the sharp EBIT decline to €228m that year.
- Who is Jungheinrich's biggest competitor?
- Toyota Material Handling and Germany's KION Group (Linde, STILL) are Jungheinrich's closest rivals, both running comparable service, financing and automation models (Vanderlande/Bastian for Toyota, Dematic for KION). Jungheinrich itself ranks around #2 in Europe and #3 worldwide, per Wikipedia.
- Could AI or automation replace Jungheinrich's forklift business?
- Not the hardware and service network, but value is shifting toward automation software where Jungheinrich is a relative latecomer. It launched the AI-based EAC 212a autonomous mobile robot in February 2026, with commercial market release planned for H2 2026, to compete in that shift.
- Who owns Jungheinrich?
- Jungheinrich AG is publicly traded on Frankfurt/Xetra under ticker JUN3 (ISIN DE0006219934, part of the MDAX), but its voting ordinary shares remain controlled by descendants of founder Friedrich Jungheinrich; only non-voting preferred shares trade publicly.
