Jupiter
Indian neobank app offering banking, cards, and lending built on partner-bank licenses.
Jupiter runs the same partner-bank setup that just got a rival's app switched off, with lending revenue as its main hedge.
Jupiter makes a financial app that sits on top of Federal Bank and CSB Bank's actual banking licenses. Jupiter itself doesn't hold a bank license; it rents the bank's ledger and adds features like spending tracking and lending. The problem: Federal Bank already did this to a competitor called Fi Money in March 2026, shutting down Fi's app and moving everything into Federal Bank's own app instead. Jupiter has some protection through its own lending business and payment app (about 35% of revenue), but the main consumer app that brings in customers could disappear the same way if Federal Bank decides it wants those customers for itself. The one thing that would change everything: if Federal Bank or CSB Bank announces it's building its own competing app or decides to absorb Jupiter's features into their own system, Jupiter loses its primary business.
Jupiter's next funding round is another flat insider bridge versus a new-investor up-round. Would confirm the valuation plateau since its 2021 Series C.
Jupiter announces acquisition of or merger with a licensed bank or small-finance-bank. Would show Jupiter securing its own license and reducing dependence on Federal Bank/CSB Bank.
- Fi Money shut its banking interface, 3.5M+ users redirected
- Jupiter users stuck between 2-10 million
- Last raise was $15M bridge, no new valuation set
- Federal Bank or CSB Bank could absorb Jupiter's consumer interface as done to Fi Money in March 2026.
- No RBI digital banking licence exists for Indian neobanks, leaving the model structurally dependent on partner banks.
- Valuation stalled near 2021 Series C level, October 2025 raise was a small $15M bridge with no new valuation.
- Generic AI copilots and bank-native AI could replicate Jupiter's spend-insight and budgeting features.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Federal Bank | gaining on | Absorbed peer Fi Money's banking interface onto its own app in March 2026, same disintermediation risk applies to Jupiter |
| Fi Money | losing to | Fi wound down entirely in March 2026 after cutting staff under 100 in 2025, cautionary precedent for Jupiter |
| Slice | losing to | Slice acquired a small finance bank licence and reached profitability, an escape path Jupiter has not taken as of mid-2026 |
| Intuit (Intuit Intelligence) | gaining on | Launched AI platform for automated personalized financial insights in May 2026, overlapping Jupiter's PFM features |
- Is Jupiter (the Indian neobank) profitable in 2026?
- Not overall. Jupiter's lending segment posted a small net profit of Rs1.3 crore on Rs16 crore revenue in FY24, and management targets operational breakeven within about two years of its October 30, 2025 Rs115 crore ($15M) raise, per Moneycontrol.
- Is Jupiter an actual licensed bank?
- No. Jupiter is a UX and analytics layer built on Federal Bank and CSB Bank's banking licenses, run via subsidiary regulated entities Amica Finance (NBFC), Amica Payment Services (PPI issuer) and Amica Investment Advisers (SEBI-RIA), per Jupiter's own site as of June 2026.
- Could AI replace Jupiter's app?
- Its personal-finance features like spend categorization and Money Calendar are generic AI-copilot territory that bank-native AI (e.g. Intuit Intelligence, launched May 2026) could replicate, but its NBFC, PPI and SEBI-RIA licenses are harder for a pure AI layer to copy.
- Who owns Jupiter Money?
- Jupiter is privately held and VC-backed, with investors including Peak XV Partners, Tiger Global, QED Investors, Matrix Partners India and Mirae Asset. It raised Rs115 crore ($15M) from existing investors and founder Jitendra Gupta on October 30, 2025.
- Who is Jupiter's biggest competitor?
- Its biggest threat is arguably its own partner, Federal Bank, which absorbed rival neobank Fi Money's interface in March 2026. Among fintech peers, Slice has pulled ahead by acquiring a small finance bank license and reaching profitability.
- How many users does Jupiter have?
- Founder Jitendra Gupta said in July 2025 the company remains stuck 'somewhere between 2-10 million' users, describing scaling past early adopters as 'very tough,' a growth plateau versus Jupiter's 2021 valuation-era ambitions.
