The call

Kainos is growing and profitable, but its biggest revenue line depends on a partner that is quietly automating the same work away.

Kainos is a £431 million company that makes money two ways: it helps customers install and customize Workday software (their main business), and it sells its own compliance and data products that sit on top of Workday. The big risk is that Workday itself is now building AI tools (called Sana and Developer Agent, arriving in mid-2026) that can do the setup and testing work that Kainos currently sells to customers. Kainos is betting its smaller software products will grow fast enough to make up for the lost setup work, but early numbers suggest that is not happening yet: the portion of their business tied to AI and data projects actually shrank, and profit margins are falling. The picture only changes if Workday's AI tools do not work as well as promised, or if Kainos can grow its own software products fast enough to offset the lost implementation revenue.

Why
01
AI pressure: Workday's own agentic AI tools (Sana, Developer Agent, Agent Passport). Workday shipped agents that auto-configure and test its own software, hitting the testing and config work Kainos sells. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Workday, Inc.. Workday is both landlord and rival: it sets Kainos's fees and now builds tools that shrink the Services work Kainos bills for. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Deep regulated-sector relationships and compliance know-how that make clients trust Kainos over self-serve AI setup.
