The call

Kassow survives as a small, Bosch-funded specialist in 7-axis arms, but its main technical edge is narrowing as rivals add AI programming and larger players eye the same niche.

Kassow Robots makes collaborative robot arms with seven joints instead of the typical six, owned mostly by industrial parts company Bosch Rexroth since 2022. The seven-joint design is real but not unique: competitor KUKA already sells similar robots, and larger companies like Universal Robots (which controls about half the market) could copy it if they wanted to. Meanwhile, artificial intelligence is making robot programming simpler and faster for everyone, which erases Kassow's advantage in ease of use. The one thing that could help is if Bosch keeps investing money and if Kassow actually sells robots to real customers through Bosch's distribution network instead of just showing prototypes at trade shows.

Why
01
AI pressure: Standard Bots RO1, Techman TM AI+ and similar no-code vision programming. AI-based no-code programming is copying Kassow's easy-setup pitch, cutting the reason buyers pick its 7-axis arm over cheaper 6-axis rivals. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Universal Robots. UR holds close to half the cobot market and could ship its own 7-axis arm, which would erase Kassow's main design advantage. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Bosch Rexroth ownership gives Kassow money, engineering, and the ctrlX distribution network that a standalone startup this size would not have.
What would change this call
Universal Robots launches a 7-axis cobot SKU. Would erase Kassow's main hardware differentiator overnight.
Bosch Rexroth announces budget cuts or divestiture affecting small subsidiaries by end-2026. Would show parent pulling back support after FY2024 weakness.
Named enterprise contract wins via ctrlX ecosystem disclosed by end-2026. Would show new CSO converting trade-show interest into real customers.
Key numbers
  • Revenue about $4M (unverified estimate) (2026)
  • Headcount grew from 25 to 61 employees (2026-06-21)
  • Bosch Rexroth parent sales: 6.5 billion euros, FY2024 (2024)
Named risks
  • Bosch Rexroth parent reported a challenging FY2024 with significantly lower sales, raising budget-cut exposure for small non-core Kassow. Severity: high
  • KUKA already ships 7-axis cobots, halving the exclusivity of Kassow's core hardware differentiator. Severity: high
  • AI-driven no-code programming from larger rivals is commoditizing Kassow's REMII/ease-of-use software pitch. Severity: medium
  • No independent equity upside or IPO path exists as a Bosch Rexroth majority-owned subsidiary since April 2022. Severity: medium
  • Public traction evidence relies on vendor case studies (Joytek/Reply, Heldele) rather than confirmed large enterprise contracts. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Kassow Robots profitable?
No independently audited revenue or profit figures for Kassow Robots have been disclosed. Its parent, Bosch Rexroth, called FY2024 a challenging year with significantly lower group sales (still totaling 6.5 billion euros) than the two prior years, per Bosch Rexroth's own press materials.
Who owns Kassow Robots?
Bosch Rexroth AG signed an agreement on March 18, 2022 to acquire a majority stake in Kassow Robots, with the deal closing around end-April 2022. Founder Kristian Kassow, a Universal Robots co-founder, remains CEO and retains a minority ownership stake.
Could AI replace Kassow Robots' cobots?
AI-driven no-code and vision-based programming tools from FANUC, ABB, and Techman are commoditizing Kassow's easy-programming software pitch (its REMII tool, launched August 2024). Its physical 7-axis hardware arm is not AI-replaceable, but rival KUKA already ships competing 7-axis cobots (LBR iiwa/iisy).
Who is Kassow Robots' biggest competitor?
Universal Robots, also Danish and co-founded by Kristian Kassow, holds an estimated 40-50% cobot market share as of 2022 and is the dominant incumbent. KUKA is a closer structural threat since it already ships 7-axis cobots, matching Kassow's core hardware differentiator.
What new products has Kassow Robots launched recently?
In April 2026 Kassow launched two higher-payload 7-axis cobots, the KR 1824 (1800mm reach, 24kg payload) and KR 1240 (1200mm reach, 40kg payload), extending its lineup to seven models. It also unveiled a ctrlX OS Connector App at LogiMAT in March 2026.
Does Kassow Robots have an IPO path?
No. Since Bosch Rexroth AG acquired a majority stake in April 2022, Kassow Robots has operated as a corporate-majority-owned subsidiary rather than an independent venture, per PitchBook's classification, meaning no independent equity upside or IPO track exists as of 2026.
