The call

KingMed still runs the physical lab network that protects it from AI-only rivals, but three straight years of shrinking revenue show a domestic peer, not a machine, is the one actually pulling ahead.

Kingmed Diagnostics runs physical laboratories and clinical testing centers across China that analyze patient samples for diseases. The company is hard to replace because it has real lab equipment, trained staff, government certifications, and relationships with hospitals, plus new labs are expensive to build and require licenses. However, Kingmed's revenue has fallen three years in a row, from about 8.54 billion to 6.03 billion yuan, and a competitor called Dian Diagnostics is now making more money. The one thing that could matter most is whether the next earnings report in August 2026 shows the decline stopping or getting worse, and whether the Chinese government changes how much they pay for lab tests, which could squeeze the company's profits even if it keeps its customers.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-assisted pathology and cytology tools (e.g. Hologic Genius, Tempus xR panel). AI tools could automate the expert-read layer that gives KingMed its margin, but specimen handling and sign-off still need humans. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Dian Diagnostics (300244.SZ). Dian now books roughly CNY 9.98B TTM revenue against KingMed's ~5.91B, having pulled ahead in the same lab and hospital-network business. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Its network of 50 centralized labs, 500 pathology centers, and hospital contracts is hard to replicate quickly under China's clinical accreditation rules.

Questions people ask
What is Kingmed's biggest risk right now?
The biggest risk is losing market position to Dian Diagnostics, which has overtaken Kingmed as revenue leader and now runs about CNY 9.98 billion TTM revenue versus Kingmed's CNY 5.91 billion as of June 2026. Dian is also pushing a Huawei Cloud AI lab platform, the Medical Inspection Big Model, which Kingmed has not matched, and within its cohort of 12 comparable lab companies, Kingmed now ranks last.
Is Kingmed Diagnostics in financial trouble?
The numbers point to strain. TTM revenue as of March 31, 2026 was CNY 5.91 billion, down sharply from CNY 15.48 billion in FY2022, and FY2025 ended in a net loss of CNY -173 million as of December 31, 2025. It still holds valuable lab licenses and hospital contracts, but five consecutive years of revenue decline show that legal protection alone has not been enough to restore profitability.
Who are Kingmed Diagnostics's biggest competitors?
Dian Diagnostics is now the clear leader by revenue, generating roughly CNY 9.98 billion TTM versus Kingmed's CNY 5.91 billion as of June 2026, and it has deployed a Huawei Cloud AI diagnostics platform Kingmed lacks. Shanghai Runda Medical Technology is closing the revenue gap from behind, and ADICON Clinical Laboratories, a historical top-four rival, is also gaining ground within Kingmed's 12-company cohort.
Is Kingmed Diagnostics at risk from AI?
Direct replacement looks unlikely since CAP/ISO accreditation, cold-chain logistics, and over 190 hospital referral contracts requiring licensed pathologist sign-off are hard for software to replace. But AI-driven pressure is building indirectly: Huawei Cloud's Medical Big Model, deployed through rival Dian Diagnostics, could shift routine test volume to cloud platforms and erode Kingmed's referral base over time.
What protects Kingmed Diagnostics from competitors copying its business?
Its moat rests on CAP/ISO lab accreditation, established cold-chain logistics, and more than 190 hospital referral contracts that require licensed pathologist sign-off, features that are hard for new entrants or AI systems to replicate quickly. That protection is real but only moderate, since revenue has still fallen for five consecutive years and the company posted a net loss in FY2025, showing that these legal and operational barriers alone have not been enough to hold its market position.
What should I watch next for Kingmed Diagnostics?
Watch the Q2 2026 earnings report due August 25, 2026, for signs of revenue stabilization, narrowing losses, or any new AI or cloud partnership announcement. Longer term, by March 2027 it will be clear whether Kingmed reports a sixth consecutive year of revenue decline for FY2026 and whether it remains net-loss-making, both of which would confirm or challenge the current shaky standing.
