The call

Krutrim's consumer and model ambitions collapsed, leaving a cloud business that runs mostly on money moving between its own founder's companies.

Krutrim started as an artificial intelligence assistant company but abandoned that business, along with its own language model and chip plans, within a year and a half. Now it sells cloud computing services in India, competing directly against Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, which already operate there cheaply and at scale. The real problem is that 90 percent of Krutrim's revenue comes from the founder's other companies (not real customers), the staff shrank from over 400 to 80 people, and the founder is using stock in a struggling sister company to keep the lights on. If the next financial report still shows the company mostly selling to itself rather than winning independent customers, the story of a turnaround disappears and the company may need to exit or sell off quickly.

Why
01
AI pressure: OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Sarvam AI. Global chatbots and Sarvam's funded models outperformed Kruti and Krutrim's own LLM, so both got shut down. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud. Hyperscalers already run India data center regions, undercutting Krutrim's pitch as a sovereign cloud option. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Founder Bhavish Aggarwal keeps it alive with personal share pledges and revenue from his own Ola Group companies.

Outside-led funding round closes above $1B valuation within 6 months. Shows independent investors, not just the founder, believe in the business.
Government IndiaAI Mission names preferred sovereign-cloud vendors. Shows whether Krutrim or Sarvam gets the official mandate Krutrim needs.
