The call

Lattice Health has a founder with the clinical and technical background to build the product, but no customers yet, one person on staff, and hyperscalers already shipping overlapping features.

Lattice Health helps hospitals prove their AI systems are safe and fair to regulators by creating signed compliance records that show what the AI did and why. Right now, hospitals have to comply with new rules but haven't picked a standard tool yet, which gives Lattice a chance. However, Datadog (a major software company) and Microsoft and Google are already building similar features into their own products, and they move slowly but have huge resources and existing customer relationships, so they are not blocked from copying Lattice's idea. The only thing that could prove Lattice is solving a real, paid problem is if a major hospital system actually buys it and uses Lattice's compliance record as their official document that they show to boards and regulators within the next six months.

Why
01
AI pressure: Microsoft Azure AI Studio and Google Vertex AI Monitoring. Both already ship HIPAA-eligible drift and fairness dashboards inside their AI platforms as of May 2026, covering Lattice's core feature set. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Datadog. Already messaging 'one BAA, one audit pipeline' for healthcare AI observability in 2026, positioning to bundle governance as a platform feature. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Hyperscalers have a lock-in incentive that keeps them from offering neutral cross-vendor governance; Lattice's on-prem, signed-PDF artifact fills that gap if hospitals adopt it as the compliance record.
What would change this call
Datadog or Azure ships a named healthcare AI-governance compliance module within 12-18 months. Shows hyperscalers closing the window before Lattice gains paid adoption.
Lattice announces its first signed paid pilot or design-partner health system within 6 months. Shows regulatory mandate is translating into actual budgeted demand.
A health system pilot opts to build monitoring in-house instead of buying Lattice. Shows the compliance artifact is easily DIY-replicable, weakening the moat.
