The call

Livspace is cutting losses and leaning on internal AI to get lighter, but its $1.2B mark is unproven and Asian Paints now sells the same service through a much bigger dealer network.

Livspace lets Indian customers design and buy home interiors online, with showrooms and installation teams in place. Big rivals like Asian Paints (through its Beautiful Homes service) and IKEA have far larger dealer networks and brand trust, so Livspace cannot easily block them from offering the same thing. The company is also using AI to cut its own staff doing design work and coordination, which shrinks its costs but also shrinks its need for employees. What matters most is whether Livspace finally stops losing money by late 2026, and whether it can actually go public at a price that investors accept, because its valuation has already been cut roughly in half since 2022 and keeps slipping.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI tools now automate design drafts and quotes internally, cutting headcount and costs rather than threatening the business from outside. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Asian Paints Beautiful Homes. Asian Paints already sells home interior design and execution through its 70,000+ dealer network, competing directly for the same customer. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Running its own installation, civil work, and warranty fulfillment across 100+ experience centres is hard to copy quickly.

Questions people ask
Is Livspace profitable in 2026?
No. Livspace's group net loss was Rs 242 to 243 crore in FY25 (year to March 2025), down 42-43% from FY24, with adjusted EBITDA loss narrowing 47% to Rs 131 crore. The company remains unprofitable at group level 11 years after its December 2014 founding, per Inc42 reporting dated October 2025.
Did Livspace have layoffs?
Yes. In February 2026 Livspace cut approximately 1,000 employees, roughly 12% of its workforce though some reports suggest closer to 25%, framing it as a shift to an AI-native agentic organization. Co-founder Saurabh Jain exited the same month, per Economic Times reporting dated February 20, 2026.
Could AI replace Livspace's designers?
Livspace itself is automating design ideation, quoting, and project coordination with AI agents, which drove its February 2026 layoffs of about 1,000 staff. However, physical fulfillment like on-site installation, civil work, and warranty liability across 146 quality checks remain labor-dependent and resistant to AI replacement.
Who owns Livspace?
Livspace is privately held and VC/PE-backed, with no single owner. Key investors include KKR, Ingka Group Investments (IKEA's parent), Bessemer Venture Partners, Jungle Ventures, TPG Growth, Goldman Sachs Alternatives, and Peugeot family holding FFP, per Entrackr reporting dated September 18, 2024. It became a unicorn in February 2022.
Who is Livspace's biggest competitor?
Livspace's closest rival is the combined HomeLane-DesignCafe entity, formed via a roughly Rs 3,000 crore share-swap merger in September 2024. Asian Paints' Beautiful Homes arm also poses a distribution threat with a dealer network exceeding 70,000 outlets, per a March 2026 competitive landscape report.
Is Livspace going to IPO soon?
Livspace has targeted an IPO multiple times, most recently guiding to late 2025 or early 2026 as of October 2025 reporting, tied to a domicile reverse-flip from Singapore to India. As of the most recent reporting, no IPO has been completed and the timeline has slipped repeatedly since September 2024.
