The call

Lovable grew faster than almost anyone in its category, but it runs on rented models and cloud from the same giants now building its product natively.

Lovable is a tool where you chat with AI to build working applications without writing code yourself. It grew very fast and now has millions of users paying for the service. The problem is that Lovable rents its AI brain from Anthropic (Claude) and runs on Google's cloud computers, and both of those companies are now building their own versions of the exact same product. Since Lovable's own marketing promise is 'you own your code and can take it anywhere,' there is nothing stopping customers from just using Claude or Google's version directly instead. The one thing that could matter is whether Lovable builds something so much easier or better to use than what Claude or Google offer that customers stick around even when the big companies copy them.

Why
01
AI pressure: Anthropic Claude Code/Cowork, Google Gemini/AntiGravity, OpenAI ChatGPT Apps. Lovable's own suppliers Anthropic and Google are building native full app generation, cutting out Lovable's layer entirely. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Anthropic and Google. Both supply Lovable's models and cloud, run competing marketplaces, and are shipping rival app builders on top. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Fast revenue growth, 8 million users, and deep enterprise adoption give Lovable a head start before rivals catch up on polish.
What would change this call
Anthropic or Google ships a native full-stack app builder with quality comparable to Lovable's. Would show Lovable's core suppliers can bypass it and capture its users directly.
A fourth major security incident occurs within 13 months of the prior three. Would show Lovable's security problems are systemic, not isolated, risking enterprise trust.
The reported $300M round at $13.2B valuation closes or falls through. Would show whether investors still back Lovable's growth story despite security and moat concerns.
Key numbers
  • $500M annualized revenue (2026-06-09)
  • 8M registered users (2026-03-07)
  • 3 security incidents in 13 months (2026-04-20)
Named risks
  • Three major security breaches in 13 months (May 2025, Feb 2026, April 2026) including exposed credentials and source code. Severity: high
  • Core model supplier (Anthropic) and infra supplier (Google) are both shipping directly competing native app-builders. Severity: high
  • Marketed 'own your code, no lock-in' feature undercuts switching-cost moat that could otherwise defend against copycats. Severity: medium
  • Pending $300M raise at $13.2B valuation was unconfirmed as of July 8, 2026 and could fall through. Severity: medium
  • AI-generated code has repeatedly lacked proper access controls, driving the breach pattern. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Lovable profitable in 2026?
Lovable has not disclosed profitability. It reported hitting $500M in annualized revenue by June 9, 2026 (company claim via TechCrunch), but with heavy reliance on Anthropic's Claude and Google Cloud infrastructure, margins are not publicly confirmed.
Who owns Lovable?
Lovable is privately held, founded by Anton Osika and Fabian Hedin in Stockholm. Investors include CapitalG, Menlo Ventures, Accel, Creandum, Nvidia's NVentures, and Salesforce Ventures, following a $330M Series B at a $6.6B valuation on December 18, 2025.
Could AI replace Lovable?
Lovable's own product is a wrapper on Anthropic's Claude and Google Cloud. Anthropic is shipping native Claude Code/Cowork, Google has Gemini/AntiGravity, and OpenAI has ChatGPT Apps SDK, all potentially disintermediating Lovable's chat-to-app layer as of July 2026.
Who is Lovable's biggest competitor?
Lovable's closest rivals are Bolt.new (about $40M ARR as of July 17, 2026), Replit (valued at $9B in March 2026), and v0 by Vercel, but its most dangerous competitors are its own suppliers, Anthropic and Google, both building native app-building features.
What is Lovable's valuation in 2026?
Lovable was valued at $6.6B after a $330M Series B on December 18, 2025. As of July 8, 2026, it was reportedly in talks to raise $300M at a $13.2B valuation, though this was unconfirmed by the company at the time.
Has Lovable had data breaches?
Yes. Lovable had security incidents in May 2025 (1,645 exposed databases), February 27, 2026 (18,697 user records exposed at UC Berkeley and UC Davis apps), and April 20-22, 2026 (a mass BOLA flaw exposing source code and credentials for pre-November 2025 projects).
