The call

Magaya's customs certification and entrenched workflows keep customers in place while headcount shrinks and PE owners eye an exit.

Magaya makes software that helps freight forwarders and customs brokers manage shipments and paperwork. It is hard to replace because it holds special government certifications that competitors cannot easily copy, and thousands of customers rely on it every day to do their jobs. However, the company is flat on revenue, losing staff, and faces two threats: GoFreight is nibbling away at smaller customers below, and WiseTech (a larger company) could decide to compete in Magaya's price range. The one thing that could change everything is whether Magaya's new AI compliance tool catches on with customers over the next few quarters. If customers actually use and love it, Magaya stays relevant. If they do not, the company becomes a steady cash box waiting to be sold off.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI lab targets customs software; Magaya built its own ACEbridge agent instead of getting hit by one. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: CargoWise/WiseTech Global. WiseTech dominates enterprise freight software and could ship a cheaper mid-market product, but hasn't yet; Magaya even won a customer, CMS Shipping, off CargoWise in 2026. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. US Customs certification (ACE/ABI) plus workflows and data already embedded in 2,300+ forwarders' daily operations.
What would change this call
WiseTech Global launches or announces a mid-market CargoWise product. Would show WiseTech contesting Magaya's core customers from above.
GoFreight announces a large funding round or reports scaled customer wins. Would show GoFreight capturing share from Magaya's mid-market base.
Magaya headcount keeps declining through Q4 2026 and Q1 2027. Would indicate PE cost-cutting ahead of a sale rather than growth investment.

Questions people ask
Is Magaya profitable in 2026?
No independently verified profit figures exist. Third party revenue estimates range $34 to $42M with no confirmed net income. Magaya is private equity backed by Apax Digital since January 2023, and self reports strong quarters through Q2 2026, but profitability is unconfirmed.
Is Magaya laying off employees?
Headcount data from Crustdata shows 240 employees as of July 2026, down 8 percent year over year from a peak of about 282 in November 2024, suggesting attrition or quiet cuts rather than an announced layoff event.
Could AI replace Magaya's software?
Unlikely soon. Magaya holds ACE certified ABI status with US Customs and Border Protection, a regulatory credential generic AI tools cannot substitute for. Magaya itself shipped AI features, Broker AI Assistant in February 2025 and ACEbridge in April 2026, as ingredients not replacements.
Who owns Magaya?
Magaya is privately held. LLR Partners first invested around April 2019, then Apax Digital led an equity recapitalization in January 2023 with LLR Partners and management rolling over their stakes. No public valuation has been disclosed.
Who is Magaya's biggest competitor?
CargoWise from WiseTech Global is the dominant enterprise tier rival, though Magaya won Montreal based CMS Shipping away from CargoWise in May 2026. Cloud native challenger GoFreight aggressively markets against Magaya from below in the mid market.
What is Magaya's revenue?
No confirmed figure exists. Third party estimates vary widely, from about $34.4M to $41.9M, with different employee counts cited alongside each estimate, indicating none are verified by Magaya itself.
