The call

Magalu fights bigger, better funded rivals and AI shopping agents at once, betting on stores, credit, and ads to matter by 2028.

Magazine Luiza (Magalu) sells things online and in stores across Brazil, competing with Mercado Livre, Amazon, and Shopee, which are all larger and spend more money than it does. The company is not hard to replace because shoppers can easily buy from competitors, and new AI shopping assistants like ChatGPT and Google could soon let people order things without visiting Magalu's website at all, which Magalu's own leaders say will happen by 2028. The one thing that matters: whether Magalu can turn its WhatsApp shopping channel into a real, owned relationship with customers before AI agents take over how people shop online, but even its peer Casas Bahia is growing faster at the same bet.

Why
01
AI pressure: ChatGPT and Amazon AI shopping agents. Magalu's own CEO says AI agents could dominate online buying by 2028, bypassing its storefront entirely. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Mercado Livre and Amazon Brazil. Mercado Livre holds 35% share and Amazon 20%, both outspending Magalu on logistics while its margins stay razor thin. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Physical stores, embedded MagaluPay credit, and a growing MagaluAds retail media business give it cash rivals lack.
