ManoMano
French online marketplace for home improvement tools, materials, and DIY goods.
ManoMano can survive as a smaller profitable French niche, but its equity story from 2021 has no evidence yet backing a repeat.
ManoMano is an online marketplace where people buy tools, building materials, and home improvement supplies, mostly in France. It used to be hard to compete with because shoppers trusted its expert advice and product selection, but that protection is gone now: Leroy Merlin and other big hardware chains have built their own marketplaces that are growing much faster than ManoMano is shrinking, Amazon dominates European DIY shopping, and AI assistants can now do the expert discovery work that ManoMano built its reputation on. The one thing that could change the picture is whether ManoMano's business-to-business tools for contractors (invoicing, payment plans, price quotes) become something that locks customers in and creates a real reason to stay; right now it looks like marketing talk rather than something that actually works.
GMV figures for 2025-2026 show stabilization/growth versus continued decline. Tests whether the France-only niche is holding or is a shrinking niche.
Whether ManoMano completes a new priced funding round in the next year. A round below or near $2.6B would confirm the 2021 valuation is stuck or falling.
- GMV down ~20% to €1.0B
- Valuation frozen at $2.6B since Series F
- 11.2M monthly visits, #3 in French Home & Garden
- GMV decline (~20% 2022-2024) continuing without stabilization.
- Core discovery/advice value proposition exposed to AI shopping agent disintermediation.
- Equity frozen at 2021 $2.6B valuation for 5 years with no new priced round.
- Growing dependency on Chinese suppliers exposes ManoMano to EU-China trade/tariff volatility.
- Dropped from French Tech Next40/120 rankings (June 2025), signaling declining ecosystem visibility.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Leroy Merlin/Adeo | gaining on | Marketplace revenue +53% to €150M in Spain (2026) while ManoMano GMV fell ~20% since 2022 |
| Kingfisher plc | gaining on | UK marketplace GMV +58% to £518M (2026), shipped rival marketplace ManoMano no longer has bar against |
| Amazon | losing to | Holds ~15.7% European online DIY share (2023), projected to overtake Kingfisher as UK's top DIY retailer by 2025 |
| Temu/AliExpress | contesting | Chinese platforms encroaching on DIY categories in Europe (2025-11); ManoMano itself onboarding Chinese sellers since 2021 |
- Is ManoMano profitable in 2026?
- Co-founder Philippe de Chanville said in June 2025 group profitability was expected 'in next months/quarters' and that the France business (about half of total) was 'very largely profitable.' No independent confirmation of group profitability had surfaced as of the July 2026 brief.
- Who owns ManoMano?
- ManoMano is privately held and VC-backed, not public. Its July 2021 Series F raised $355M led by Dragoneer at a $2.6B valuation, with Temasek, General Atlantic, Eurazeo and Bpifrance Large Venture among investors; that valuation has not been reset since.
- Who is ManoMano's biggest competitor?
- Amazon leads European online DIY with ~15.7% share (2023) and was projected to overtake Kingfisher in the UK by 2025. Meanwhile incumbents Leroy Merlin (+53% Spain marketplace revenue) and Kingfisher (+58% UK marketplace GMV) grew fast in 2026 while ManoMano's GMV fell.
- Could AI replace ManoMano?
- AI shopping agents threaten ManoMano's core 'expert-led product discovery' value proposition. ManoMano added an in-house AI shopping assistant (vendor-claimed, late 2024), but a July 2026 independent industry report found its moat genuinely strong only in France, not elsewhere in Europe.
- Is ManoMano still a $2.6 billion unicorn?
- ManoMano was valued at $2.6B in its July 2021 Series F ($355M round led by Dragoneer). As of July 2026, no new priced funding round had been reported, even as GMV fell roughly 20% from 2022 to 2024.
- Is ManoMano shrinking or growing?
- ManoMano's GMV fell to an estimated €1.0B in 2024, down about 20% from €1.243B in 2022, per Sacra. It also dropped out of France's Tech Next40/120 startup rankings in the June 2025 cohort.
