Marinade Finance
Marinade runs mSOL, a liquid staking token letting Solana holders stake and stay liquid.
Marinade lost the retail staking race to Jito and is now betting its survival on winning institutional and ETF-linked flows before Jito gets there too.
Marinade Finance lets people stake Solana coins and earn rewards without locking up their money, which is useful but not hard to copy. Jito built a better version by sharing more rewards with users and captured most of Marinade's customers (from 95% down to 17% of the market) in less than two years. Marinade is now betting that rich institutions and big funds will pay for fancy compliance features and custodial setups, but Jito is chasing the same customers with its own ETF filing and already-proven ability to win. The real test comes in July 2026, when Marinade's fee discount expires on its main institutional product and customers will have to decide if they are willing to pay full price instead of switching to Jito.

Marinade's retail LST share reading versus Jito's in the next Solana staking snapshot. Indicates whether the 17% share continues eroding or stabilizes.
- LST share fell from 95% to 17%
- MNDE token down about 84% over trailing year
- Institutional SOLC TVL at 5.3M SOL, up 21% QoQ
- Continued LST market share erosion to Jito and Jupiter.
- VanEck's JitoSOL ETF filing could divert institutional flows from Marinade's SOLC exclusivity.
- SOLC ETF fee waiver expires 2026-07-01, exposing full 0.50% fee economics.
- MNDE token down ~84% over trailing year, straining DAO funding and buyback plans.
- Fee-compression precedent from Grayscale's cut to 7% could force matching cuts across issuers.

- Is Marinade Finance profitable in 2026?
- No verified profit figures exist. Marinade charges 0% on liquid staking deposits and earns via a commission on staking rewards plus instant-unstake fees; the DAO has proposed directing 50% of protocol performance fees to monthly MNDE buybacks (MIP-11/MIP-13) as of 2026-05-06.
- Who is Marinade Finance's biggest competitor?
- Jito is Marinade's biggest rival, holding about 44% of Solana's liquid staking token market as of October 2025 versus Marinade's roughly 17%, a reversal from Marinade's near-total dominance in January 2024, driven by Jito's MEV-reward differentiation.
- Could AI replace Marinade Finance?
- Unlikely soon. Marinade's moat is on-chain validator relationships, DeFi composability of mSOL, and regulatory credentials like SOC 2 Type I/II certification and exclusive staking-provider status on Nasdaq's SOLC ETF (2026-05-06), not proprietary data an AI model could easily replicate.
- Who owns Marinade Finance?
- No corporate parent owns Marinade. It is governed by the Marinade DAO through MNDE token holders using Realms governance since July 2023, with a 7-member elected Council operating under a 4/7 multisig for day-to-day decisions.
- What is Marinade Select and why does it matter?
- Marinade Select is Marinade's curated, compliance-focused validator set for institutions. It was named exclusive staking provider for Canary Capital's SOLC ETF on Nasdaq (2026-05-06) and went live on Anchorage Digital's custody platform on 2026-04-23, anchoring Marinade's institutional pivot.
- Has Marinade Finance lost market share to competitors?
- Yes, sharply. Marinade's Solana liquid staking token market share fell from near-total dominance in January 2024 to roughly 17% by October 2025, as Jito grew to about 44% and Jupiter reached about 12% share.
