The call

Medallia keeps its enterprise customers for now, but its owners just took a $5 billion loss and its biggest rival is buying up the rest of the field.

Medallia collects and analyzes customer feedback for large companies, helping them understand what people think about their products and services. It is becoming harder to compete because Qualtrics is buying up similar companies to get bigger, and newer AI tools like Syncly and Perspective AI can do some of Medallia's jobs faster and cheaper by using conversation and automatic tagging instead of old-fashioned surveys. The company's survival depends on whether its new AI features actually win new customers and whether it can successfully restructure its heavy debt load by the end of 2026 without major delays.

Why
01
AI pressure: Syncly, Perspective AI, Chattermill and other conversational-AI feedback tools. These startups skip surveys entirely, mining chat and calls directly, undercutting Medallia's survey-first setup with cheaper auto-tagging. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Qualtrics (via its $6.75B Forsta/InMoment/Press Ganey rollup). Qualtrics is buying up rivals to bundle CX categories together, and could pull Medallia's enterprise renewals into one consolidated deal. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep integrations into Fortune 10 workflows and years of stored feedback data make ripping Medallia out costly and slow.
