The call

Menlo holds a sticky base of banks and agencies but every big cloud and network security vendor now ships its core feature for free.

Menlo Security sells software that isolates web browsing in a protected container to stop hackers from stealing data, mostly to banks and government agencies. The company has a real business with over $100 million in yearly revenue and keeps most customers happy. However, all the big security companies like Palo Alto Networks, Zscaler, Netskope, Cloudflare, and Microsoft have already built the same browser isolation feature into their own platforms as a standard add-on, so new customers have no reason to buy Menlo separately when they can get it bundled with what they already use. The one thing that could save Menlo is if its new technology for protecting artificial intelligence agents takes off before the big tech companies build AI protection into their own browsers and platforms.

Why
01
AI pressure: Google, Microsoft, and Palo Alto Networks building native AI-agent browser governance. AI agents that browse the web need policing, but platform owners can build that control into their own browsers and clouds natively. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Palo Alto Networks (Prisma Access Browser, via Talon acquisition), plus Zscaler, Netskope, Cloudflare, Microsoft. Every major SASE vendor now bundles browser isolation for free inside platforms customers already buy, undercutting Menlo on new deals. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. 1,000+ enterprise accounts including 8 of the 10 largest banks, with 97% gross retention and deep workflow lock-in.
What would change this call
Menlo discloses ARR growth rate or total ARR in next earnings/press cycle. Would show whether growth is reaccelerating or decelerating past $100M mark.
Menlo announces new priced funding round or IPO filing within 12 months. Would confirm investors see enough net-new growth to reprice above 2020's $800M valuation.
Reports of Menlo losing financial services or government logos to Palo Alto or Zscaler. Would show bundled competitors are converting incumbency into actual customer switching.
Key numbers
  • $100M+ ARR, 30% YoY growth (Oct 2024)
  • 110% net retention, 97% gross retention (Feb 2025)
  • No priced round since $100M Series E at ~$800M in Nov 2020 (Nov 2020)
Named risks
  • Core browser isolation feature increasingly bundled free into SASE/SSE platforms from Palo Alto, Zscaler, Netskope, Cloudflare. Severity: high
  • New CEO Bill Robbins (Feb 2026) leadership transition execution unproven after founder Amir Ben-Efraim stepped back. Severity: medium
  • No new priced funding round disclosed since Nov 2020, raising questions about growth trajectory and valuation currency. Severity: medium
  • AI-generated evasive phishing attacks bypassing existing detection tools per Menlo's own June 2026 report. Severity: medium
  • Votiro acquisition integration risk, monitored via Senetas (former parent) ongoing ~2% equity disclosures. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Menlo Security profitable in 2026?
Menlo Security has not publicly confirmed profitability. It surpassed $100M ARR in October 2024 with 30% YoY growth, and its CEO targeted cash-flow positivity in 2025, but no independent confirmation of profitability has been disclosed as of mid-2026.
Who is Menlo Security's biggest competitor?
Palo Alto Networks is Menlo's most direct threat, having acquired Talon Cyber Security in November 2023 to ship Prisma Access Browser, a competing secure browser bundled into its SASE platform, alongside Zscaler, Netskope, Cloudflare and Island.
Could AI replace Menlo Security's product?
Unlikely to fully replace it: Menlo's browser isolation is architectural infrastructure, not a detection model. Its June 2026 threat report found 1 in 5 phishing attacks evade existing tools, and Menlo launched MARS and Guardian Runtime in March 2026 to govern AI agents rather than be replaced by them.
Is Menlo Security a safe company to join right now?
Menlo shows growth signals (110% net retention, 97% gross retention as of Feb 2025) but installed a new CEO, Bill Robbins, in February 2026 after founder Amir Ben-Efraim moved to Executive Chairman, an unproven leadership transition worth watching before joining.
Who owns Menlo Security?
Menlo Security is privately held, backed by Vista Equity Partners (which led its $100M Series E in November 2020 at roughly $800M post-money), General Catalyst, Neuberger Berman, JPMorgan Chase, American Express Ventures, Ericsson Ventures, and HSBC.
Will Menlo Security go public soon?
As of an October 2024 interview, then-CEO Amir Ben-Efraim said an IPO was not imminent and could take roughly three years of preparation. No funding round or IPO filing has been disclosed since the November 2020 Series E.
