The call

Moesif's independent story ended with the WSO2 buyout, and its own parent is now the main force squeezing its paid product.

Moesif built dashboards and billing tools that help companies understand how their APIs are being used. WSO2, a larger company that makes similar software, bought Moesif outright in May 2025 and is folding it into WSO2's bigger platform. The main threat is twofold: AI assistants built into larger competing platforms can now do the same dashboarding and reporting work automatically, and WSO2 itself is offering Moesif's features for free as part of its own new AI Gateway, which undercuts Moesif's paid product. The key question is whether WSO2 will keep Moesif as its own separate business with its own team and brand, or quietly absorb it into the main WSO2 product over the next year. Early signs point toward absorption: web traffic is down 13% in recent months, the team has stayed flat at about 15 people since the acquisition, and WSO2 already started bundling Moesif's basic features free to all its customers.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI copilots built into API gateways (WSO2 AI Gateway, Postman AI, Apigee). Copilots inside bigger platforms now auto-generate the usage dashboards and cohort reports Moesif built its business on. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: WSO2 (its own parent company). WSO2 bundles a free Moesif Basic Insights tier into its API Platform, undercutting the paid product it just bought. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep billing hooks into Stripe, Chargebee, Zuora and named accounts like UPS and Deloitte create switching friction, but it is thin.
What would change this call
Moesif renamed to WSO2 API Monetization or merged into WSO2 API Platform tab by mid-2026. Would show Moesif lost its independent brand and became a feature, not a business.
Headcount or web traffic figures reported after WSO2 API Platform GA (March 2026). Would show whether the acquisition is stabilizing or shrinking the business.
Whether MCP/agent-traffic billing revenue is booked under Moesif's name or WSO2 AI Gateway's name. Would show if Moesif keeps any distinct commercial identity post-acquisition.
Key numbers
  • Web traffic down 13% quarter over quarter (2026-06-21)
  • Headcount flat around 15 employees (2026-06-21)
  • Acquired by WSO2 in all-cash deal (2025-05-28)
Named risks
  • Parent WSO2 cannibalizes paid tier via free 'Moesif Basic Insights' bundled into its own subscriptions since October 2025. Severity: high
  • Core dashboard and analytics reporting functions are directly exposed to AI copilot commoditization inside larger platforms. Severity: high
  • Risk of brand and P&L absorption into WSO2's unified API Platform following its March 2026 GA launch. Severity: medium
  • Small team size (9 employees as of 2021, modest growth since) limits ability to compete against multi-hundred-employee rivals like WSO2 itself. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Moesif still an independent company?
No. WSO2 acquired Moesif in an all-cash deal announced May 28, 2025, and Moesif now operates as a subsidiary under WSO2's API Management Business Unit, though it kept its brand and leadership as of October 2025.
Who owns Moesif now?
Moesif is owned by WSO2, a Colombo, Sri Lanka based API management firm, since the acquisition announced May 28, 2025. WSO2 itself is majority owned by EQT Private Capital Asia and reported over $115M ARR as of March 2026.
Is Moesif profitable?
Current profitability is not disclosed. Moesif reported revenue growing over 20% month over month throughout 2021, per its own August 2021 funding announcement, but no revenue or profit figures have been published since the May 2025 WSO2 acquisition.
Could AI replace Moesif's product?
Its core dashboarding and analytics reporting is exactly the kind of function AI copilots commoditize. Parent WSO2 launched its own AI Gateway and MCP Gateway on March 31, 2026, bundling comparable agent traffic governance directly into its platform.
Who is Moesif's biggest competitor?
Its own parent, WSO2, is now a direct competitive pressure: WSO2 shipped an AI Gateway and MCP Gateway in its March 31, 2026 API Platform launch that overlaps with Moesif's paid analytics. Other rivals include Apigee, Kong, and Postman.
What does Moesif actually do?
Moesif is an API analytics, monitoring, and usage-based monetization platform offering real-time event logging, customer-level usage analytics, and billing meters that sync to Stripe, Recurly, Chargebee, and Zuora, per its November 2024 product documentation.
