The call

Moka works because GoTo built payment rails around it, and it could stop mattering the moment GoTo builds a native POS to replace it.

Moka POS is a cash register and payment system for small shops in Indonesia, owned by GoTo Group since 2020. It is not particularly hard to replace because its parent company GoTo already has its own payment system (GoPay) and point-of-sale tools (GoBiz), plus access to lending and banking licenses that Moka relies on. The company is shrinking slowly with no major updates and no AI-powered features, while its real advantages belong to the parent. The one thing that could change everything is if GoTo decides to merge Moka's functions into GoBiz and retire Moka as a separate product, which management could do at any time and would eliminate Moka's reason to exist.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No named AI product targets Moka yet, but generic AI reporting and inventory tools could copy its core features cheaply. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: GoTo Group (parent company). GoTo could fold Moka's POS functions into its own GoBiz app, since it already owns the payment and lending rails Moka depends on. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Moka sits inside GoTo's GoPay and GoBiz payment and lending network, with 35 to 40 thousand merchants already wired into it.
What would change this call
GoTo announces a unified GoBiz-native POS or merchant-OS replacing Moka. Confirms parent is absorbing Moka's function rather than growing it.
Moka job postings or headcount rise, or an AI merchant-insights feature ships. Would show renewed investment rather than managed decline.
Grab launches free or bundled GrabMerchant POS with parity features in Indonesia. Would show a regional super-app rival directly targeting Moka's merchant base.
Key numbers
  • Gojek paid $120 to 130M to acquire Moka (2020-05-13)
  • Moka served 35,000 to 40,000 merchants at acquisition (2020-04-23)
  • Employee count fell to 670, down 15% from 788 in 2023 (2025-12)
Named risks
  • Parent GoTo could consolidate merchant tools into a native GoBiz POS, hollowing out Moka's product line. Severity: high
  • No AI feature launches by Moka POS as of mid-2026 while core reporting/support functions are commoditizable. Severity: high
  • Headcount down 15% and job postings down 35% signal reduced internal investment. Severity: medium
  • Crowded Indonesian POS field (Pawoon, ESB, Olsera, Majoo) competing for the same merchant base. Severity: medium
  • No independent funding or standalone financial disclosure since 2020, full dependence on GoTo budget decisions. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Moka POS profitable?
Moka's standalone financials are not broken out; it sits inside GoTo Financial. Parent GoTo Group posted about $1.0B revenue in 2024 (+3.2% YoY) with narrowing net losses through 2024, but no Moka-specific profit figure has ever been disclosed.
Who owns Moka POS?
Gojek acquired 100% of Moka POS for a reported $120-130 million, closing the deal in May 2020. After Gojek merged with Tokopedia in 2021 to form GoTo Group, Moka became a subsidiary brand inside GoTo Financial.
Will GoTo replace Moka POS with a native GoBiz product?
No confirmed GoTo announcement of a GoBiz-native POS replacing Moka existed as of July 2026. Claims of such a swap within 9-14 months appeared only in an unsourced jobs-aggregator profile and remain unverified.
Could AI replace Moka POS?
Moka's reporting, inventory and support features are commoditizable by generic AI tools, but its OJK-licensed Moka Capital lending and GoPay/GoBiz EDC payment rails resist replication. No Moka-branded AI feature had shipped as of June 24, 2026.
Who are Moka POS's biggest competitors?
Indonesian rivals include Pawoon (founded 2014), Olsera, Series-B-funded ESB (about $39.6M raised), Majoo and Kasir Pintar, plus regional threat GrabMerchant from Grab, GoTo's main super-app competitor.
Has Moka POS raised new funding since being acquired?
No independent fresh funding round for Moka itself has occurred since Gojek's May 2020 acquisition; it now operates purely as a subsidiary brand funded through GoTo Group rather than raising its own capital.
